Family History Library
Family History Library
I just want to thank those of you who recommended the family history library microfilms. I ordered them eventually got them from the USA and have been working on them since. The information on most of the films has been excellent. Ive been able to trace my family back to the 1860's through the births deaths and marriages records. I still have plenty more films to order. I think it goes back to the 1820's. The church records go back to the 1700's but Im yet to attempt those.
Thanks again. Lili

Re: Family History Library
go to www.familysearch.org for the closest family history library and take along a companion book "Discovering your Italian Ancestors" by Lynn Nelson. The films can be rented for about $5.00 =Peter=

Re: Family History Library
The ordering system has apparently just changed. Ordering was done at the Family History Library by the volunteers. Now ordering must be done online. But not many of the volunteers have been updated on how its done. I had a look at the website and couldnt find the link to order online. This might be because its still being set up for the new year.

Re: Family History Library
At the FHC in my area you must order the microfilms online, but this must be done at the FHC. The link for ordering is only available at the center on their computer. They notify you when the films come in, usually 3-4 weeks.

Re: Family History Library
You can use the link that Peter has provided to search the catalog from home. Under "search records" you can choose to search by place, name, etc. Write down the film numbers so that when you go to your FHC you just have to type them in.
And the book Peter suggested...INVALUABLE!!!!

I just received that book for Christmas last night. I started looking through it and I can definitely tell it will be extremely helpful with what I need. I also received "Italian Genealogical Records."

I found out there is a center right around the corner from me. But is the info they have online the same they have in the centers? When I search some family members online nothing comes up on their website.

No I havent gone to the center yet. I didnt realize there was one around the corner. But with the online search I plug in several different people from several different places in Italy and they have not a single person in my family from Italy. I dont get it
