Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
I believe I have found my GG grandmother's morti. This is so exciting because I had no idea when she died. It looks like they messed up the spelling of my GG Grandfather's surname.

Re: Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
Good Morning Jim
Death record is for the wife of Matteo Mattori. Her name was Maria Antonia di Lorenzo. She was a 57 year old farmer and the daughter of deceased Arcangelo di Lorenzo and deceased Irena Tescione. Both her parents had been farmers living in the town when they were alive. She died on Dec 28, 1879 at 9 P.M (document is dated on the 29th) in the house at 17 Via Iariao (have to check on street name).

Before I check on the street name, is this definitely your ancestor?

Re: Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
Hi Peg,
Yes it definitely is her. Her birth act combines her given name as Mariantonia. The surname on Matteo's birth act is Mattora.
I had her father but not her mother in my tree.
This is wonderful!!!
Thank you,
Jim

Re: Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
Have you seen the street map for the town on Google Maps? It's really neat, Jim. Looks like a car is driving through the town.
Peg
I don't see the street name to confirm the spelling. I believe the first letter is an I and not a J. There is another website with street names and I am trying to find my bookmark for it. Then I need to work on the book I am writing for my sons today and get off of this website.

There's a good street map right in with the Italian white pages phonebook. I still don't see the street name though
Re: Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
How wonderful. My daughter just completed a 2000 page (2 volume) book for the society she has been genealogist for 14 years. She presented it at the 75th anniversary meeting last September. To say it was a highlight would be grossly understating it.
I have to brag and say she did a wonderful job. It contained about 16 generations.
I'm sure you will do a great job. You sound like a very thorough investigator. Much success to you.

Re: Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
Thanks Jim. Hopefully someday my sons will read it. I've been working on my book for about a year now. Have about 250 pages written so far. Doing more than just names and dates. Researching all kinds of topics for the book. I am learning a lot. My older son told me he would only be interested in this genealogy stuff if it were in book form. I've always wanted to write a book. My younger son has no interest at all, at least not yet, but he is responsible for me having started the research in the first place I love helping people on this website, but I sometimes feel I am spending too much time on it and not enough time on my own writing. I also did an Italian genealogy workshop in mid March in my village to help others here get started with their research. Not many Italians where I live though. I actually have one couple coming to my home tomorrow afternoon to help them further with their research. Not sure we have the right town for their ancestors, but there is only one way to find out for sure. We're going to send an email to the anagrafe office in the town where I believe they came. Hopefully they will get lucky and get marriage information and names of the couples' parents from that registry office.
Have a good day Jim. I'm going to sign off now.

Re: Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
I originally meant to type an s at the end of the street name I typed above. Great that you found this list of street names for the town, T. Are there any such lists for other towns?

This looked like a list created specifically for the SMCV website. If other towns have street name lists, I'm not aware of them. Would certainly make translations easier if they did!

Re: Mariantonia di Lorenzo morti
I am willing to bet the declarant had to be her husband Matteo's brother. This was not a common name in S.M. Unfortunately, this is one of those pieces of info I'll have to sit on for a while, since I have no solid proof as yet. I've seen the repetition of family names as declarants and witnesses on many of the documents I have found. I guess it makes sense.
