Teramo

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

I have been looking for my grandfather Guiseppe Fortunato Franceschini born 1889 or 89 and have been unsuccessful on many sites....in documents he states born in Teramo, Santaramo, Ventimillio.....have documents US census living in Chicago Ill...with a woman who claims to be his wife Amelia (Frances)..maiden name unknown...what I need to find out is where he was actually born, when he immigrated to US..he left my grandmother Vienna Franceschini with 5 children in Schenectady NY ..1923....Vienna was born in Italy and have most documents for her...God bless.....but, finding my grandfather has been a mission only to see if there are relatives from his relationship with Amelia...Guiseppe was a tailor ...and Amelia a dressmaker.....can't even find obituaries in US newspapers for either one of them...sounds complicated and it is....anyway you can help will be appreciated....Guiseepe supposedly passed on in 1962 in Chicago, ill.
Thank you....so much

Wilmington, Delaware has a large population of Italians that originated in Teramo, Abruzzo. Among them is the family Fortunato -- very successful home builders, I might add. You might try getting in touch with some of these people. Perhaps they might have some information about your grand-father and/or other relatives. If searching in Wilmington, the name Arcaro is also connected to the Fortunato's.

Do you have this WWII REgistration Card?

Name is listed as Joseph F. Francesc
Resides in Chicago with wife Amelia
DOB 15 August 1889 - Place of birth Ventimillio (Ventimiglia, Liguria Region, Province of Imperia)

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1861144

And this POSSIBLE 1930 US Census in Chicago?

Listed as Joseph Frances. He is a tailor.
Looks like they have been married for 8 years (he lists age at marriage and she lists age at marriage as 22) They are listed as age 42 and 30 respectively on the census.
There are no children listed.
Joseph indicates that his father was born in France, which agrees with the place of Birth as Ventimiglia, which is 4 miles from the French-Italian border.
