No Birth Certificate for American Father

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

No Birth Certificate for American Father

Post by Cristina319 »

Ciao a tutti!

I am in the final stages of collecting documents for my citizenship (through my maternal grandparents), and I've been able to find everything I need with the exception of my father's birth certificate. He was born in 1917 in Youngstown, Ohio. I have been to the city/county office, and while they have his death certificate, they do not have record of his birth. According to the officials there, his parents probably did not officially record it anywhere but in their church. I do have the original church baptismal form.

I'm at a loss as to the next step and would appreciate any information or thoughts any of you might have.

Grazie mille!

Use the baptism record. This is unlikely to be a problem since you are using the maternal line.
