How to find information about immigrants to Italy?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

How to find information about immigrants to Italy?

Post by Mysterysolver »

Hello,

I just found out that one of my ancestors had a brother who emigrated to Italy. now I am very curious to find out more. This is all information I have:

Adalbert Mayer was born 1823 in Bohemia and was sent a baptism record in order to be married in 1851 (July 28). At that time he was pyrotechnician in Italy.

Since I don't have any more information, I'd just guess he went to the famous "scuola italiana", one of the two European main schools for pyrotechnics, in Bologna.

How can I best find out more?
Where can I find marriage records for Bologna and surrounding places?
Where can I find more information about immigrants, like in the USA you can search censuses, Ellis island and passenger lists of ships....
Is there any specific source for pyrotechnicians in Italy?

Thanks a lot of advance!

Susanne there is one Mayer in the city of Bologna and the entire province of Bologna and that is FRANZ MAYER. Go to http://www.paginebianche.it and put Mayer in the left side and BO to cover the City of Bologna and the entire province and click Trova for name, address, telephone number and map. You can send him a possible relative form letter and if you wish to add something in English keep it simple since English is quite common now in Italy. http://www.initalty.com/gene/mem/letter1.htm

You might also give him a telephone call as well since it is the only Mayer around! Peter
