Need help please- Miceli family-Molochio. Reggio Calabria

Post by Pooziej »

Hello,
I am looking for information on the following people:

Gaetano Miceli- Feb. 26, 1895
(Wife) Christina Miceli- Nov. 16, 1895

I am trying to help my friend who is 85 to find more data on his parents & family history. All he knew was that they were from Molochio, Reggio Calabria.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Donna

First go to www.tuttitalia.it/calabria/46-molochio for ther address of the local Vita Records office UFFICIO DI STATO CIVILE (In Italy all vital records are in the city, town or village of origin) located under MUNICIPIO. to the right there is a tourist website for the town for more inmformation.

For Birth.marriage or death records send a form letter in Italian to the Uffico di Stato Civile. It is free of charge.

The website is http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html

If you have further questions please get back to us. =Peter=

Hi Donna and Welcome! :D

Christina Miceli's maiden name was De Maria Cristina (it's helpful if you'll decide to ask for certificates in Italy), from the site http://www.ellisisland.org/
this is the December 1, 1920 arrival manifest for Cristina, joining her husband Gaetano Miceli in Beaver Falls - PA.
She stated her father was De Maria Carmelo, living in Molochio, Italy

After looking at the ship manifest from Ellis Island, there are 2 other persons that may be related to this family. Bruno Miceli of Kane, Pa. and Carmelo Miceli who joins Bruno.
Beaver Falls & Kane are near each other and as they came from the same place and on the same ship, I am sure that they are related (somehow).
It's good to see some things coming together. :-)

Hi! Yes, this is the correct family. I tried to find them in the US Census but couldn't. WOW! You are SUPER!
I guess it was a variation on the spelling that messed me up.

Thanks!

Hi Donna!
I double checked the link, it seems to be OK
Not sure I can make it larger
The original is on ancestry. com - do you have a subscription?
Valarie

possible 1913 manifest
page 2

It does appear that Gaetano is joining a cousin Francesco Nato

VJ,

After mousing over, I was able to enlarge it. I was not able to figure out the writing (except for Beaver Falls) of who they were going to go see. I do know that it was a cousin of Gaetano's though.
This is great as it is his Father-in-law that he was traveling with. I also could not make out how old Carmelo was either.
I can't wait to tell my friend all that I have found out!

Thank you!

Here's my best guess:

line 3
Carmelo De Maria 45 (abt 1868)
- married
- last residence Molochio
- destination Beaver Falls PA
- not in US before
- joining nephew Savino(?) Rocco(?)

VJ,
Thank you again for all your help.
Now I need to continue my search back in Italy for the De Maria family as well as the Miceli's.
I can search at any time in the U.S.Census.

Thanks,
Donna
