Obtaining Italian Records

Post by bhambamababe »

I have found a great uncle in ship manifest through Ellis Island and on Ancestry. His Italian name was Luigi Davito Gara born May 5 1892. He lists his residence as Rocca Canavese and his father also in Rocca is Michale Davito Gara. With this information is it possible to obtain Italian records? Birth records, marriage records of his parents ect. If so can you please suggest the best way to go about this?

There are a couple ways of getting records on is from Family History Library they have micro film rentals by the month roughly $5.75 per film per month for the town of Rocca Canavese Italy, Torino, Rocca Canavese 1866-1910 civil records birth marriage death records but the records are limited. So you will probally have to write the comune of Rocca Canavese Italy

I would start by asking for a birth record (atto di nascita) which will give both parents ages where they lived an sometimes occupations and home street.Heres a letter asking for the birth record of Luigi and if they dont have it where can you get it.It should be free of charge for the photocopy of the real birth record you just need to give them money for return postage 1.60 Euro

Yes somewhere between arriving in NY and settleing in Alabama...the Gara was lost. I found this record and thrilled his granddaughter. :) It made me so happy to share and to help her. Thank you for the info and so much for the form letter. I truely appreciate your time and advice. :)

Hi, My name is Martin Davito Gara and I'm from Argentina.
My great gandfather's name was Michele Celeste Davito Gara and he was from Rocca Canavese.
My father told me about the fact that he (Michele) had a brother in the US. I wonder if you have any relation.
I would be glad if you could give me any information.
Thanks in advance,
Martin

Hello. I have been researching my families from Rocca Canavese, including Davito-Gara's. I have as a distant cousin a gentleman named Michele Celeste Davito-Gara, born 1895 in Rocca. He had a brother named Martino Davito-Gara, born 1886. Their parents were Antonio Luigi Davito-Gara and Rose Eurosia Ongouin (not sure if that is spelled correctly). If this is related to your family, I can share additional information.

The Davito Gara's are distant cousins (my grandparents were born in Rocca and I have done a lot of genealogy research on the families). I did find that Martino Davito Gara (born 1886) lived in Pennsylvania and died in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1958.
