Catholic church marriage records usually list the name of the deceased first wife (but not always) and the parish of birth of both parties.

Re: BENEDETTO SANGIOVANNI
Thanks a million to Pink 67
You are amazing . . . all of the research you came up with.
I am trying to read the articles written in Italian, that are in the links that found.
Is Benedetto's name Giovanni Benedetto Sangiovanni according to the article?
And is Giosue Sangiovanni his father's name.
In the picture at the top of the article, it has the name Giosue Benedetto.
Do you have any suggestions on how to research the ancestry of Benedetto.
Thanks

Re: BENEDETTO SANGIOVANNI
Thank you annette, I'm always happy to help...
From what I read Giovanni Benedetto Sangiovanni was born on 1781 in Laurino and was the younger of 4 brothers. The Giosuè on the ancient photo was his older brother.
I would advice you to contact the persons of that site, I'm sure that they will be able to help you in your research...
Good luck!

Re: BENEDETTO SANGIOVANNI
I was able to contact the author of the articles written by Cosmo Schiavo, and receive from him the grandparents of Benedetto Sangiovanni.
He had written his stories, from a history point of view, rather than a genealogy one.
A few days ago, a came accross this link to a 1841 letter scammed by google.
The words at the top MAROTTA - SANGIOVANNI
Would this be perhaps his 1st wife filing in behalf of her son?
http://books.google.com/books?id=zQM6AQ ... ni&f=false
Also, what does "CASSAZIONE CIVILE" mean?

"Cassazione civile" is the highest level of civil Court (after first judgement, you can turn to an Appeal Court, and, as an extreme resource, to Cassazione Civile)

Where would the location of the appelate court case be found? What state archive or library would have a copy of it?

SANGIOVANNI Marotta
Hi, I'm new to this forum. Does anyone have information regarding marriages between Sangiovanni and Marotta families? My 2nd great grandmother's maiden name is Leonida Sangiovanni (b: 1806 - Laurino, Salerno). She married Giuseppe Marotta (b: 1806 - Laurino, Salerno).
Thank you.
Thank you.
