Fiore,Iannaccone,Saponara from Avellino to NJ

Post by carryld »

My father, Arturo (Otto) Fiore (1904-2001)came from Avellino with his mother, Maria Iannacconne (1880-?)arriving on 10 Jan 1906 and his Uncle Angelo to be with his father Luigi Fiore (1880-?). My father married Assunta Saponara (1901-1969) and his Uncle Angelo married (Second marriage from what I understand and I don't know the first wife's name)Assunta's sister, Carmella. They all lived in Fairview, NJ. I also remember my father mentioning the name Pellecchia..not sure, but think its a cousin somehow. Anyway, I found some Fiores and Iannaccones (and a Pellecchia)that immigrated from Avellino that appear to have been travelling together but went to NY. I cannot connect them though to my NJ family but feel they are somehow...too many coincidences. I'm sure that Luigi and Angelo were not the only siblings. Any help??? Also looking for the dates my grandparents died, and maybe their parents names????if possible. Please!

Welcome carryld :-)

Do you have US Census records? We may be able to make some connections and go backward from there...
ALSO, can you reference (or post images) the manifest information that you cited above? We can take a look at the record...

A few details will help us help you with your search...
First names, approx dates of birth, and place in New Jersey where these ancestors lived.
Whatever you can provide will be of great help.

Hi Tessa,
Thank you for trying to help me. For Angelo (1888-?), I have the 1940 Census and 1942 WWII draft reg. putting him at 294 Delano Place in Fairview NJ. He came on the SS Liguria arriving 10 Jan 1906 http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipm ... 2168050117
My father and grandmother are listed below Angelo.

For Luigi, my Grandfather (21 Jun 1880-?)and Maria Iannacconne (1880-?), I have WWI draft in 1917 placing them at 128 Murray St, Fairview, NJ and the 1930 Census placing them at 165 Anderson Ave, Fairview, NJ. I have not been able to locate him on a ship manifest.

The people I'm trying to connect to them are:
1. Sandolo Fiore (1883-?),the first name I couldn't really read but looked like Cyidio Iannaccone (1885-?), and Carmine Pellecchia (1882-?) arriving 18 Dec 1901 on the SS Victoria http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipm ... 2827050216

2. Salvatore Fiore (1879-?) and Sabato Iannaccone (1864-?) arriving 7 Apr 1903 on the SS Duca Di Galliera http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipm ... 2626070455

Salvatore was coming to stay with his brother, Saverio who arrive 2 Apr 1897 on the SS Burgundia and was not traveling with anyone whose name I recognized.
This is all I have. I don't have access to the census except for the 1940 which is being offered right now.
THANKS!!!

Hey Carryl!
Just before your last post (thank you for the additional information) I posted a later manifest for Maria and son Arturo. They're lined-off the Jan 1906 manifest you posted. Lining-off generally meant they didn't sail or were listed on another page.

Here's another cousin on Luigi's 1905 manifest
I'm pretty sure Costantino is the surname...
Perhaps T :D may be able to sort out the cousin's full name

Luigi and Maria Fiore may also have been buried in Fair Lawn, perhaps near Luigi's mother Rosa in Section 1?
