D'Iorio or Iorio (iorio) from Gallucio

Post by tdiorio_Canada »

My last name is D'Iorio and we landed in Montreal Quebec. My Great grandfather Savino was from Gallucio. I am thinking he would have come to Canada in the early 1900s. I have very little other information other than the "D" could have been added when he came to Canada. How can I find out more information?

I found out recently the following:

Savino and Florinda Di Iorio left Italy in April 1911. Florinda was my great grandmother. I guess the name got changed once they arrived. They were married and from Galuccio Caserta Naples as you had shared. He was 29 and she was 18 years old. They arrived at Ellis Island (in New York) on a boat called R d Italia. I wonder how they ended up in Montreal and what they did when they arrived in New York. I am also out to find out the roots in Italy. Let me know what you find please.

Thank you so much. This makes sense since Savino's brother was Giovanni. He also had two other brothers: Guiseppe and Artur. Do you have any records of when Giovanni, Guiseppe and Artur came over and do you know if they had their work information? My Grandfather owned a grocery store in Montreal.

Thank you but I don't think so. I am more interested in Giovanni who was the first to come to Canada as it looks like he sponsored Savino. I then also wonder about Guiseppe who was the other brother.Do you have any information on them?

On Familysearch, there is a census record of an A D'Iorio (born about 1877)and a Giovanni D'Iorio (born about 1876) living as boarders in Montreal in March of 1901. No image is available.

Excellent. Thank you. Do you have any records of a Joanine? I found out there is no Giovanni but there was an Adolpho. Joanine is also a sibling of Savino.

Also, Susan way above you mentioned Savino was sponsored by a Giovanni. Could Savino been sponsored by Guiseppe (his brother) and Luciano (his father)? Was Luciano married?

There is an unsourced tree on Ancestry which shows Adolpho D'Iorio, born 1877 in Galluccio, wife Rosa Di Donato, son of Luciano D'Iorio and Lisa Miele, died in Montreal.

Thank you, do you know when Adolpho came to Montreal? I also had two other questions:
1) Do you have any record of a Joanine. (sibling of Savino and son of Luciano)
2)Earlier Susan said Savino was sponsored by a Giovanni. Could Savino been sponsored by Guiseppe (his brother) and Luciano (his father)? There is no Giovanni in my family tree
