Help with Rossini and Angelisanti Families from Ferentino

Post by chcarey78 »

Hello All,

I'm new to the board and I've been in a frustrating search for the birth parents of my great-grandmother, Mary E. Rossini. She was born March 7, 1917. Her immigration records state she came over with her aunt, Flavia Angelisanti in 1920. The birthplace for both is listed as Ferentino, which is in the Frosinone province of the Lazio region. I'm unsure if she really was born in that commune or if that was just put on there because that's where her aunt was born. Odds are pretty good that she actually was born there.

My great-grandmother was adopted by her Aunt Flavia and Uncle Mariano Rinaldi and raised here in America. Her birth name is Rossini and I haven't been able to find anything on her mother and father.

Any advice on how to retrieve this information would be very helpful.

Thank you from a frustrated genealogist.

According to the ship manifest for Flavia Angelesanti and Mary in 1920... (SS Lapland, from Antwerp, arriving NY on 20 August)
Place of birth for both is given as ROME. (page 2, last column of manifest)
In the column for name and address of nearest relative in the town they left, it states "Fleurentino, Rome"

Link in Ancestry to the manifest:

HOWEVER...
On the arrival manifest in 1913 for Mariano Rinaldi (Flavia's husband) it states LAST PLACE OF RESIDENCE as Ferentino - leaving wife, Flavia in Ferentino...
Joining "brother-in-law, Giacomo Angelisanti in Montreal, Can."
PLACE OF BIRTH (last column) is listed as Colonna...

AND... another trip manifest for Mariano in Feb 1920 gives his birthplace as Colonna, AND his last residence as Colonna, leaving wife Flavia.
Joining brother-in-law Giacomo Angelisanti in "Rethinga, Pennsylvania" (Reading?)

FYI - Colonna is a comune in the Province of Rome

THE LDS Family History Library has microfilmed records (1871 to 1919) for Colonna available.

Since Flavia and Mariano lived in Colonna prior to their trips in 1920 (referenced on manifests) you might want to check the births there for Maria Rossini :-)

Ferentino and Colonna were part of the Papal States and did not begin civil records until 1871. Prior to this date you will need access to parish records. Many of these are now in the Diocese offices in Ferentino although some parishes continue to maintain the records in the parish office.
