Help Finding Birth Record For Charles (Carlo) Mormino
Help Finding Birth Record For Charles (Carlo) Mormino
I am attempting to find a birth record for my Great-Great Grandfather Charles (Carlo) Leonardo Mormino. According to his death certificate (from IL in 1935) he was born in Termini Imerese around 1890 (although other documents point to anywhere between 1887-1890). The handwriting on the record is pretty bad but it looks like his father's name was Carmen and his mother's name was Rose. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any records with the actual day he was born.
I've tried looking in the ten year index for Termini Imerese from that time but haven't been able to locate his name. Does anyone know if that means that he was not born in Termini Imerese? I just don't want to waste time going through all the micro films for those years for Termini Imerese if it's pretty certain he wasn't born there. Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to the forum!
Can you post the death record for us, and provide some additional information?
Maybe we can find some records for you in US to determine that Termini is his exact place of birth.
Did he always reside in Illinois?
Did he marry in US or Italy? What was the name of his wife? Children?
The MORMINO surname is found in Termini and in the Comune of Palermo ...
I did a search of the indici for Termini (1886-1895) and found no Carlo Mormino birth listed.
HOWEVER, I found 2 births listed for Leonardo Mormino. There was one in 1890 at record #131 (or 151- hard to read); and another in 1892 at record #226.
I also located a World War I registration card for Charley Mormino on Grand Ave, Chicago.
If this is your GGF, he lists his birth as 8 September 1887
He also states that he applied for naturalization "first papers - 10/29/17)

Re: Help Finding Birth Record For Charles (Carlo) Mormino
The Charles Mormino I came across in the 1910 census arrived in the USA in 1909 at age 23, single and residing as a boarder in Norman Minnesota. He gave his estimated birth as 1887. I was unable to go further with regard to his entry since even Castlegarden.org has been taken over by MY HERITAGE and I find the EllisIsland .org objectionable. Perhaps someday I will become brilliant as the rest of you when it comes to Family Search and sit there with a magnifying glass trying to bend my head over by 123 degrees to see if I can read something in Italian. Oh well! Peter

Thank you so much for this suanj! I was never sure what the first name would have been in Italy since Charles is obviously anglicized. It is definitely him as that is the right address. Is the Declaration date the same as filing the first papers or second? Is this a record I can find on familysearch.org? Thank you again you have been so much help!suanj wrote:hi

His wife's name was Anna Prete (they were married in Illinios) she was born in Chicago to immigrant parents. His children where Carmen, Michael, Rosa, Carmela, Mamie, Anne, Joseph, Theresa. They lived in Chicago for most of his life except for a short stint in Iowa (they were running from the mob, I have a very colorful family history ). Theresa was born in Iowa but the rest of the children were born in Chicago. They lived on Ohio st. when he died but I know they also lived on Grand Ave.
A lot of the records you provided look very promising! Thank you so much for taking the time to find them. I will try and see if I can make the files smaller so I can post his death record.
