De Salvo

Post by TonyDiNobile »

I am trying to help a friend trace her paternal line....Nicola DeSalvo who was born circa 1872 in Palermo....His parents were Pietro DeSalvo and Cosima Alella....Any information that would help me trace this family would be Greatly Appreciated .

The records are on familysearch.

But it is a long search. There are a lot of pages for 1872, and the indexes seem to be disorganized. I have found so far Giuseppe and Rosa di Salvo, which mean his name might actually be di Salvo.

I'll keep looking.
TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information

Can't find anything more for 1872.
I guess next is for someone to try 1873; if you have time yourself:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,351055603

there seem to be several books, 100-300 births in each but still the same year.
1872 had like 5 books of 300 each and then one book of 6000.

Palermo is both a city and a province. Do you specifically know if it is the city to which you are referring?

I would guess that his surname was Di Salvo. That's how I see it spelled (or just Salvo) in all the Sicilian records where I seen it, but I haven't looked through those for the city of Palermo. In 1872 it's also very possible that his name was Nicolo' instead of Nicola on his birth record.

I thought I replied to this , but I'm not seeing it....As far as I know he was from the city of Palermo , although it's possible that he was from a different city within the province of Palermo....I will clarify with my friend , especially since his wife came from Alia in the province of Palermo .

:D ....Thank You ALL So Very Much !....I had suspected that my friend might of been wrong and indeed her De Salvo Line was also from Alia , instead of actually in Palermo....This will make her Very Happy and will help further the research....Regards ,
