What year did Angela Calaio come to Australia for the death records online of Leni only go to 1910
Angela Calaio left for Australia with her daughter (Maria Pittorino) some time shortly before 2011, as Maria Pittorino was married on 29.03.1911 to Francesco Picone in Sydney Australia.
As a family we were told that Angela Calaio's husband, Gaetano Pittorino, died in Leni as a result of a horse & buggy accident prior to Angela emigrating to Australia. We do not know what year he died though.
Angela Calaio died in Geelong, Vict. Australia on 19.07.1942, which is where she is buried.
I'm after the death record of Angela's husband, Gaetano Pittorino
There was another child

I left the page links on familysearch.org to the records on the posts just click on those and download to your computer or print the records from the familysearch site
Hi Again Marty, Yes, thankyou very much I got the links. But was wondering if there was any way a clearer copy could be obtained? Even when I try to adjust the colour & contrast on the document etc I can't seem to get it clear enough for easy reading. I have someone who has kindly offered to interpret the documents and I want to be able to provide them with a clear & readable copy.
With no death record coming to light for Gaetano Pittorino b. 1856 or his son Giovanni b. 1889, I'm beginning to think that both of them could've died somewhere else other than Salina.
Looked for Gaetano death record 1894-1909 for Leni there are 2 years missing for death records 1906-1907 I think he died in those years being he was dead at the time of his daughter Angela's death in 1909 Since the death records only go to 1910 I think Giovanni 1889 died later than 1910

Oh wow, you also found Angela's birth record, thankyou!!
What a pity the death records for 1906 & 1907 are missing. I had narrowed down Gaetano's death (b.1856) between the birth of his 2nd born Maria and death of Angela i.e. between 1891 & 1909.
I believe your summary is correct Adelfio, and that he died in either of those missing years (either 1906-1907).
Can anyone shed any light on the uniforms these 2 gentlemen are wearing? The gentleman on the right was born in Leni 1879. The photo was taken in Australia, at a guess approx. early 1900's

Hi Liviomoreno, thanks so much for replying. Yes, I know they appear Scottish but was wondering if anywhere in Italian history there were any uniforms that resembled what these 2 gentlemen are wearing. Plus their headgear doesn't appear Scottish at all.
If not, I can only assume they were dressed up for some 'fancy dress' occasion

How far back do the records go?
Leni online records go to 1866-1910 birth marriage death
Here's another photo but it's a bit clearer. The hat he's wearing is similar to a pilot's hat plus it has a feather in it. The photo was taken in Australia, and it's a postcard type. I was thinking perhaps with the intention of sending it home to Salina to family.

During the mass emigration from Italy during the century between 1876 to 1976, the U.S. was the largest single recipient of Italian immigrants in the world. However, their impact was not as great as countries like Argentina and Brazil. That was due to the fact that hundreds of thousands of immigrant...
