Percocos and Zerillis

Post by cassidy »

I've been using Ancestry.com for a good while, but I kind of hit a wall with the Italian immigrants on my father's side. Even the recent "open global records" day didn't help me, so I thought I'd look for more sources of information.

I know that my great-grandfather Giovanni Percoco (1891-1938) left Naples and arrived in New York in 1902 with his mother, Angela (1858-?). He eventually married Lucia Zerilli (1884-1968), originally of Marsala, Trapani, Sicily, who arrived in 1906 and went to live with her previously-immigrated brother Giuseppi. I just can't find anything further back: who was Giovanni's father? What was Angela's maiden name? What about Lucia and Giuseppi's parents?

I'd also like to know more about my great-aunt, Anto(i?)nette Percoco (b. 1916), if that's possible - I can't find anything at all for her after the early censuses. It would be nice to know if my dad has cousins out there!

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

do you have their NYC marriage record? Parents' names should be on that record.

Percoco Giovanni Nov 8 1914 certificate # 28208 Manhattan
Zarrella Lucietta Nov 8 1914 #28208 Manhattan

I believe I found Giovanni's manifest in Ellis Island, he was traveling with his aunt Angela Rosa Percoco, not with his mother.

Here's Antonette on the 1940 census married to an Anthony P. Rinaldi. Her 1 year old daughter and brother are on this census too.

I found an obit for Lucy Percoco in Ellenville NY. She died at age 83 in 1968 and was John's widow at the time. Her brother was an Alfred Carrella- a misspelling of his surname in the obit? (The Kingston Daily Freeman, July 5, 1968)

http://www.fultonhistory.com/fulton.html

Do a search for Lucy Percoco and it should be the 11th listing that comes up in the search. Also if you search for her son Anthony Percoco, or Antthony V Percoco, you will see that he was a high school teacher in Ulster County NY.

Thank you so much for your help! I'm sure this will get me over the bump.

1888 does make more sense for Lucy's birth than 1884, given that my grandfather was born in 1926. And Carrella makes sense as a typo, because Zarella seems to be the spelling they eventually standardized to.
