Can anyone shed light on the use of the word Universita in older documents?
One example of such is ". . . domiciliante in della Universita." Does it mean a certain area of a town? I have seen it used as a place where someone was born or lived or even where they worked. I'm certain it doesn't mean a university or college as is the definition given in my Italian-English dictionary.

Re: word meaning
Università:
under the Napoleonic regime, the comuni of the Kingdom of Naples were called Universitas civium (It. comunità cittadine) or "Communities of Citizens".
So basically another word for "comune".
