Pietro Chines Augusta Sicily

Post by sachines »

Salvatore Fazio was my grandfather on my mother's side. Lucietta Maria Fazio (b.1907 m. 1926 d. 1982). I tried to piggyback my post on Salvatore Fazio, but figured it would be best to start a new post.
I provide a lot of the information about my Fazio roots from my father Santo Chines (b.1902 D. 1995)
I have hit a road block tracing my father's family. His father was Pietro Chines born in Catania or Augusta in 1873. He was an orphan. His father (Chines) first name unknown was born about 1840. He owned a jewelry shop in Catania. He had several legitimate children, Joseph, Sabastiana, Josephine, Salvatore and Dominic.
I would appreciate any information you could provide on the chines family prior to 1902.

Thank you
Salvatore Chines

The online records for Catania go back to 1820 - did you look through them and have no luck? https://familysearch.org/search/image/i ... %3D1912932

The online records for Augusta only go back to 1900 but here are records going back to 1820 available on microfilm: https://familysearch.org/search/catalog ... %20Library

Pietro Chines was a foundling, not an orphan. He was abandoned in Catania on Nov 7 1873. Both first name and surname were imposed by the Official. His birth record is here #3072: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... ,204119301

Livio, Thank you very much for the information. I'm going to have someone translate it for me. unfortunately I never spoke or read Sicilian. According to my father he was raised by Santo Dimare and Rosaria Noe in Augusta.

Thanks,

Sal
