Frank Moyer and Minnie Sandore (sp)

Post by magbag1 »

Does anyone know if In Italy were there other spellings for Frank Moyer and Minnie Sandore around the mid 1800's?

Once immigrants came here, census takers misspelled a lot of names so the spelling of these names may have been different in Italy, possibly around the Calabresa area. This is the only area that someone in the family said my Great Grandmother had talked about so I am guessing the two of them are from this area.

Any help would be appreciated as I am trying to locate birth certificates on them. They did not marry until after they came to the US via a ship thru Ellis Island.

I don't know what ship or what year either so I am trying to find that info as well, so any help with that would also be appreciated.

Thank you,
Margaret

We have not been able to find him and that may be because of the name change spelling but as far as I know he had been spelling it Moyer but he may have changed it to that when he got older or was in the US longer. I do not have any records of birth and death on him or Minnie.

Where is the Certificate Number you found and is the info you provided is that what's on it?

I do not know if he had any siblings if he did they stayed in Italy. As far as I know he was the only one that came on the ship that trip. No one ever mentioned any siblings of him or Minnie here in the US.

I do not even know what ship or what day.

Thank you for your help.

I found the 1940 census, but it does not add anything to what we already know, but one more birth date for Minnie:

I have a birth and death date and a birth location for Frank Moyer. They are March 10, 1863, at Calabria, Italy, and he died Feb 1, 1950 in Groton, CT

For Minnie Sandora, she died April 10, 1942 and I have to assume it too was in Groton, CT. I do not have a birthdate or location for her yet. I got her death date from Frank's obituary that I got from the Newspaper today. They are sending me a copy of the article.

I was able to find out what newspaper was in business back then and also found out what funeral home took care of him and where he is buried. He is in the same cemetery as my mother.

What a coincidence! I was there 20 yrs ago to see her grave and didn't even know he was there too.

So now how do I go about getting his birth certificate?

Thanks,
Margaret

What I wrote in your other thread, and then deleted, is that the main issue id finding their place of origin and original surnames. After that, it will not be difficult to request certificates.

This should be the ship manifest for Filomena Pagano, with daughter Giacomina and son Giuseppe in 1891:

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... cc=1849782

If they are the right people, this confirms they were from Petina, province of Salerno

the below record confirm that MOIA or better MOIO is the italian surname spelling:

Mary Moia
Connecticut, Deaths and Burials

Name: Mary Moia
Gender: Female
Death Date: 03 Nov 1894
Death Place: Groton, New London, Connecticut
Age: 1
Birth Date: 1893
Father's Name: Frank Moia
Mother's Name: Amelia

the only discrepance is that the Minnie, italian first name is Amelia...

I will be sending out a request for Frank and Minnie's death certificates tomorrow.

I tried to find their marriage info at the site you found it at but I could not locate it. I am doing something wrong but I don't know what.

I will try again.

As soon as I get the death certificates I will let you know what they say.

Thanks!
Margaret
