Castagna is a village in the town of Carlopoli in Catanzaro Province. To access the state archives from your home computer, you must do so through the following website and not the link given to you by Ann. Unfortunately, the online birth records for the town only go to 1861.

I believe that your ancestor was born in CASTEL CASTAGNA in Teramo province, Abruzzo region and not in Castagna hamlet of Carlopoli, Catanzaro province.
I am pretty sure that he was born in Castel Campagna...
Francesco made other trip on 1907, and joining at wife Laura in Phila, PA... just the second page of ship's manifest is on line but I believe that is your ancestor, and born in Castel Castagna

Ann, I don't know the reason, but when I try to access the state archive records through family search.org, and select a town name and type of record, I get a message which says:

This image is viewable when using the site at a family history center.

I therefore can only view the state archive records by going directly to the antenati website, which is why I provided the other link.
