My Great grandfather boarded on 2 boats to get to Canada... (through Ellis and Boston Harbour) and then took the train from what I understand... to Western Canada....

Hi everyone,

Maria is so correct in her comment. This is why I posted the manifest information.

Many immigrants still landed in Ellis Island and then went onto their final destination through other means of transportation. While other immigrants basically boarded the boat again and sailed onto the final destination.

Ps- Maria, I have the 1900 and 1920 census and could mail them to you to save you time for searching for them.

Go for it!

I will be linking eveything soon... (if files are bigger than 1024k I would have to reduce them and then link... which is no problem...)

[quote="brujaojos"] Also, what documents do you have on the family? Such as do you know the wife's maiden name? >
I have birth records for Pietro Vincenzo DiPierro & Anna Maria (Bifano) from Armento, Italy, so have traced both lines there. Death certificate for Pietro DePierro. Also, birth records for their children Mary & Michael (Michele) born in Chicago. And possibly the birth record for Rose born in Canada sent by Nuccia. The 1900 census record shows them married for 17 years. Unforunately, many Armento civil records are water damaged and 1880-1887 are not on the film, so I believe they were unreadable & not filmed, so no marriage record. Wrote priest for in three years ago, no reply. Have new letter typed and ready to go, just waiting for PO to get more International reply coupons :!:

Hi Again,

When was the last time you checked the microfilm for Armento? The Family History Center has microfilm that you can order. Also, did you check the Publications as well as the Marriage Acts? The Publications (pubblicazioni di matrimonio) might be of better quality.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... =1&last=50

Also, are you sending the letter to the Stato Civile for the information? You probably won't hear from a Priest for their time is limited and they usually maintain several Churches.

Here is the address just in case.

Ufficio Stato Civile
Comune di Armento
Piazza Umberto I, 13
85010 Armento PZ
ITALY

I hope some of this helps,
Trish

Hi Everone,

I don't know what else to say except, THANK YOU :!: Maria, for all the postings & help, Trish & Nuccia for the records, suggestions & help.

I hope you gals can get together and meet. Sounds like you all have been friends for many years. Nuccia, glad to hear today was better than yesterday & I hope tomorrow will be even better!

Guess I'm really dense! Are you all saying that it's possible that Pietro traveled to USA first, arriving @ Castle Garden in 1885, then went back to Europe for Anna Maria & son, Vito (B. Dec 1883 Italy) or met them in Canada, lived there & then came to USA? I never came up with that scenario before, but it is possible. One problem would be Pietro's middle name, "Paolo" on the manifest. This name doesn't show up on other side of the family & Pietro's birth/baptismal record shows "Pietro Vincenzo Dipierro." His great grandfather, Baise Vitale, was born abt 1761 & lived til he was 93, not so for his father, Nicola Vitale(o) born 12/19/1819 d. bef 1871 ( Can't find due to the water damage to the records, some are really bad & impossible to read & many years are missing). His grandfater was, Michele Arcangelo 1786-1840. Also, remember the census record that Nuccia posted of the other Pietro & Anna Maria DiPierro & family liviing in Chicago? So, the manifest could be for him. ( Posted & deleted, when Trish & Maria were away?).

I have all the Armento films @ my FHC here in town. Still going thru for additional records. I have found more just by checking marriage process papers for all the children in a family not just direct line.

Trish, If the civil records have been destroyed by water, How can the civil office provide? Should I try writing both?
Trish, Any suggestions on my post "Chicago researcher ....?"

Nuccia, Had already sent email to the church archive in Toronto for church information. I'll resend & request a search for baptismal record for Rose. Thanks for clarifying.

If I missed anything or you all need additonal information or have more suggestions, please let me know.

God bless, take care & thank you,

jcsm400 wrote:Hi Nuccia,

Thanks so much for the reply & site. Info very helpful.

The name is Rosa DiPierro (many variations) born March 1890 French Canada, daughter of Pietro DiPirro & Anna Maria Bufano (Bifano). They had a son born Dec 1883 Italy, so I believe they came to Canada between 1884 & 1890. They then moved to Chicago prior to 1900 census (can't read migration date on 1900, 1910, 1930). This is a line from Armento, Italy & can't find Pietro's naturalization record in Cook County, IL.

Hope this helps everyone.

suanj.

Would be interested in seeing these records. My Pietro Dipierro had a great uncle (born 1804) by the name of Vito Antonio. Have not found a death record for him in Armento, so it could be him.

Thanks as always for the info.
