surname MUSACCHIA MUSACHIA

Post by wylesgirl »

I am looking for any info. on a Dominick Musachia buried 11-16-1953 in St. Roch cem. in New Orleans, La. Wife was Josephine Manuella buried 8-24-1958 St. Roch cem. also. I am also trying to find who Charkue Giglio was as for this person has name listed as being in the same vault as Dom. and Jos. Dom. served in the Italian Army during one of the world wars. He moved to Independence, La where he and his wife were strawberry farmers. I think he came from the Palermo area. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Lisa

I think Dom. was born abt. 1878-1880. He was first buried at St. Joseph in New Orleans then moved to St. Roch 1953

Hi wylesgirl,

Here's a link to the Musacchia's coming through Ellis Island.

http://stevemorse.org/goulnik/match1.ph ... &dwpdone=1

This is the information for Domenick and Josephine in the 1910 census.

1910 United States Federal Census Recordinfo
about Domenick Musachia
Name: Domenick Musachia
Age in 1910: 30
Estimated birth year: abt 1880
Home in 1910: 3-Wd Police Jury, Tangipahoa, Louisiana
Neighbors: View Results
Race: White
Gender: Male
I'm going to try to link the census to you because it also lists another family with the same name and I'm not sure if you need that information or not...

Hi Lisa,

Just so you are aware....MUSACCHIA is traditionally an Albanian-Italian (Arberesh) surname. This might be an interesting angle for you to pursue in your research.

In brief, Albanians were invited over to Sicily in the middle ages, after their country was overrun by the Turks, and many settled in what is known today as Piana degli Albanesi (Plain of the Albanians), not far from Palermo.

Among the towns with strong Arberesh roots: Palazzo Adriano, Santa Cristina Gela, Contessa Entellina & Mezzoiuso in Sicily, Falconara, in Calabria province. There are numerous others, esp in Sicily. Your Domenick may be from one of them.

There used to be a site called Leaptoad that had alot of info on the Arberesh, but it is now closed to new subscribers. But if you enter Arberesh into Google, you may find other sites.

Good luck!

Hi nuccia, no the age is so different, the first was 34 old in 1898, the second was 36 old in 1910, so is another person... if the first arrived in 1898 is the right, could be a relative of Domenico, because 2 Musacchia in same street ... they could be brothers....

perhaps could be interesting to find the Domenico ship's manifest.. well we must to search! kisses, suanj

Hi Lisa,

This link is to help you locate the ship manifest for Dominick, if he arrived at the Port of New Orleans.

http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/no1900.html

1920 census shows immigration year as 1901.

Hope this helps.

Although I cannot tell you anything about the Musacchia's that you requested, I was wondering if you are related to the Frank Musacchia family that lived in Algiers, part of the New Orleans area? They are distant cousins of mine who lived down the street from me when I was a kid.

I am seeking information on the Frank Musacchia family you mentioned in this post. I have his birth as 24 Sept 1890 in Palermo, Italy. Seeking what the names of his parents were and where they entered the US from Italy. Working on this information for my cousin who is his Great Granddaughter and knows nothing of her Italian heritage but wants to learn.
