Mariotti family ties...Help!

Post by JoJmoto »

So this is the place to start, right? Okay then, I dont know much about my italian heritage at all but, I would love to lear more.

Over the years I have often wondered about who it was that came here first from the old country and just how we came to be.

I was born in Utica New York and we lived in West Windfield and Bridgewater, NY. I personally moved to Florida at the age of 2 with my mother, who is not of italian decent. So I did not get to know my family that well, except spending out summer months in NY on vacation from school. I have no idea who my great grand parents are, not even their names, however, I am still vary close with my uncle who would know this. So, where do I start?

1) Where is the Mariotti name from?
2) My grandmothers name was Mary (Unknown madian name)
3) My grandfathers name was Edward Mariotti Sr.
4) My Fathers name was Edward Mariotti Jr.
I have several aunts and uncles from these grand parents. What do I need to do next? I would like to learn who my family goes back to, where they lived before comeing here and if I have any family still over in Italy that I could one day goes see. We (Me, Wife and children) are planning a trip in the fall of 09 and it would be great if I could look them up while there!

Thanks for and help on learning me how to discover my heritage!

Hey suanj :D !
Really great census find.
Interesting that Edward Sr’s wife Mary was born in Rhode Island.
There are some really good records for Rhode Island available if
we can find out her maiden name.
Let’s hope Joseph can confirm the information.

For reference, suanj’s census find:

In the Citizenship block, is says 1914, could that be the year my grandfather came over from Italy? If so then he was about 16 years old when he came, would he of came with his parents or did juveniles come alone back then, how did that work? If he came with parents, where should I look to find a manifest for this, showing where they came from and what his parents names were? Again, thanks for all your help, this is bringing me great joy to learn this stuff. My grandfather died when I was vary young, maybe 8 or 9 or so, but I do remember he did not speak english to well. My grandmother, Mary, spoke it just fine, I found out her last name was concillio, not sure of the spelling. Oh, my other anut was Stella.

I do find the writing on those pages a little hard to read.

Ok here is what I have found out so far, which isn't much.

My grandfathers name was actually Edwino Mariotti, not sure when it got changed to Edward.

My Grandmothers name was Mary B Consilio and her parents were Daniel and Theresa Consilio, my grandmother being born in Rhode Island and dies in West Winfield NY around the mid ninties.

Thanks to you all for helping me out here. I dont know how you do it, everything I try and pull up off these web sites want payment. I thought most of this stuff was public record but every time I try and view it, it tries to charge me.

Is there records from Itally that are public like here in America? So, I can find out where they all lived and still have family?

Again, Thanks so much!
