Years ago my grandmother who was from Massa Santa Lucia, Sicily (Messina) would make a braided bread into a circle about 10" and she would put a egg ( my father would get two eggs) intertwined in the braids. The bread was on the sweet side and tasted great. Is there anybody from that region that would have the recipe for the bread.
