orphans

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

orphans

Post by StephanieK »

How would one go about finding a family an orphan was placed with? Family name was Davito Gara in Roca Cse. Around 1860..they took in a young boy who later immigrated to the United states. No idea what the boys name was. Family had a son named Luigi Davito Gara with possible father Michel, sister Cristina. Other family members may have been Giovanni and Marietta.

Depends on the type of records the town kept. Some places kept orphans separately and counted them as a family by themselves. Others listed them with the foster family. Church records were the same.
