1817 Domenico Sadutto Death Record

Post by Haztek »

Looking for the profession of both witnesses. Looks like catano?

1st image is as it was on the microfilm.

2nd image, I reversed black and white.

I'm also reading Catano. I wonder if it is a shortened version of Capitano - Captain. But two captains?

I have seen this before from the next town from Rotondi, Paolisi, also. It does not show up in this list of professions:

Yes, I also use this list from time to time. I researched Catano but couldn't find anything. Hopefully our Italian friends in Italy will be able to help later.

catano: possibly a person who produces or sells cotton (il cotone)??????

I had a quick look at the surname Catano and came up with the following in various places: http://genealogy.familyeducation.com/su ... gin/catano
I may be completely off-track though as far as the occupation goes.

I can't see the image right now, but can it be "cataro"?

Hi Pippo
It could be Cataro. I had wondered that too because the second to last letter looks a little like the "r" in Marito. I don't know what Cataro might be.

I think you might be right Pippo. Cataro - cooper. I've just found the following - it has come up in Jerry's records before:

Thank you Angela and Pippo! Awesome!

I keep a list of unusual professions not listed on the website I referenced above. However, I missed writing down Cataro last year!

It is now on my list!!!!
