Stuck on a Word

Post by amasi3 »

Hello,

I am having trouble identifying a word in death record #71 for Rosa Alvino
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/T ... 1,53004901

The word looks like "soprosesitto." It appears in the tenth line of the record before "giorno." I am trying to find out the date Rosa died, but this word is in my way.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hello
It says soprascritto giorno (day written above) so died the date of the record: 15 July 1870, 8 am.
Angela :)

Edit: The word "sopra" can mean "above" or "on" so I think that in this case it might be more accurate to say "on day written". (Just been thinking about this.)

Hi Angela!

Thanks for the help! I studied Spanish in school so I can get through most Italian.
Sobre = above & escrito = written in Spanish so the Italian word "soprascritto" makes to me. Thanks again for the explanation!

You are very welcome - I'm pleased I could help. If you have studied Spanish, I can imagine you would find Italian records manageable - it's just being able to decipher the script which can be tricky at times :)
