Diamante or Cirella?

Post by CiaoBella1313 »

Ciao,

I was told my nonno was born in Diamante around 1900. I tracked down his birth certificate and it said he was born in Diamante Cirella. What does this mean? :?

So, was he born in Diamante or Cirella? I never heard of Cirella before. I looked on a map and see it is near Diamante.

Grazie!

They are one and the same. By that I mean they are different "towns" but part of the same municipality. Cirella is a frazione of Diamante.

Look on the right hand side of Diamante's wikipedia page, you see Cirella listed as the only frazione. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamante_%28Italia%29

This means when requesting a document, you write to the town office of Diamante, but you tell them he was born in Cirella.
TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information
