Town in Palermo from 1656

Post by cj11788 »

Hello,

Below is a marriage from 1656. The groom is Leonardo DiFatti and he seems to be from Terra di Golisano.

Is that correct? On the other hand I see Monreale right after that.

Thanks,

Chris

it seems they are from Golisano which is Collesano in Palermo and they were living in Monte. (Monreale)

In the Church archive of Collesano there are acts of baptism, marriage and death since the end of 16th century

Thanks Erudita and Marcello.

Maybe one of these days Family Search will get those records.

I have another town for you. For Benedetto Fabiano and Caterina Ribando which is #40 in the lower right, it looks like he is from Genua. Can that be Genoa? That would not seem right to me.

Yes, Chris, Genua is the Latin name of Genoa. The document though does say though- that he was from Genoa but was living in Piana delli Greci.

FYI-this was posted previously on the forum by suanj
"In the past was Piana dei Greci is in Sicily, around Monreale, currently called Piana degli Albanesi.. are same town..in ancient past (1488) name town was HORA albanian word meaning "the Town"... after name town was Piana dei Greci why the people they conserved the Greek religion and customs and again and subsequently the name changed in Piana degli Albanesi

Benedetto was the son of Agostino and Caterina di Fabiano, a widower from Genoa who was living in Piana delli Greci. Caterina was the daughter of Pietro and Antonia Ribando. She was also a widow. I can't decipher her former first husband's name was the last name is Gianni of Monte.

Bride's last name was RIBAUDO, not Ribando. Her first husband was Domenico Gianni. She (not her first hisband) was from Monreale (not Monte).
