I found another page with pictures from Isca Sullo Ionio (and some of the surrounding towns too)

Click on any one of the town names, then click on "Galleria Fotografica"

Re: Changes in first names
The thing that is somewhat strage to me is that requirements for something as important as citizenship can vary so greatly from consulate to consulate....and even from person to person. It's surprising that there isn't more uniformity.

Re: Changes in first names
Thanks for the information, mler.
Where is a change of name processed? My first instinct would be the courthouse in the county where he lived, but I really have no idea.

Re: Changes in first names
I think the most common Americanizationof Saverio is "Xavier". By the same token, is there an Italian version of "Samuel"?

Changes in first names

Thanks pascalena, that makes me feel a bit better. I talked with my great aunt about this recently, and she said that for a while he didn't know his year of birth. I would imagine this situation is somewhat common, but I also heard that dates are very important in the citizenship process.

Timing of naturalization for jure sanguinis
I just received my great grandfather's Naturalization records from DHS....they took twice as long as his records from Italy! Anyways, the 1930 census listed him as an Alien, which I now know was incorrect: He was a citizen in 1930. I'm not sure why it lists him as Alien. Now I am double checki...

Re: Requesting info from Stato Civile
I am just going to bump this topic up to report that I received my great-grandfather's birth extract yesterday. It was one day short of one month since I sent the request! (Sent January 28, Received Feb 27). I did send the request via USPS Priority, which cost me $25, but the reply seems to have bee...

Re: Citizenship Jure Sanguinis and discrepancies in records.
You have to get the certificates amended so that the names are exactly the same on all documents. The Office Of Vital records does this (at least in RI.) I had to get baptismila records, etc to do this...not sure what it's like in CA> Yeah, I heard of getting the records amended. But this courthous...

Thanks for your response pastasugo.
How would I go about creating this affadivit? Would I have to see a lawyer to do this, or is it something I can do on my own?

Citizenship Jure Sanguinis and discrepancies in records.
I'm collecting documents for my citizenship request, and was wondering how serious the discrepancies in the records Ihave are... For my great grandfather from Italy, who is the one I am claiming citizenship from: 1) He was named Saverio Calabretta in Italy, but this later became Samuel Calabretta wh...

Re: me-mother-grandmother-great-grandfather
Thanks Petrarca, I was wondering if you were ever going to check back here! I was reading through all your posts, and I think you were moving to Sweden, correct? How did that go? I have sent to Washington DC to get a record of my great-grandfather's naturalization record. I don't know when he was na...

I have the birth act for my great-grantfather Saverio Calabretta here: http://nopants.org/family/Saverio_Calabretta_birth_act.jpg I have figured out that his father was Raffaele, and his mother was Marianna Anania, and that Marianna's father was Giuliono. But I cannot make out her mother's na...
