Re: Looking for a Giuseppe Castrovinci
Thank you very much for putting these up. The only surprise here is that he's listed as single. I wonder if that could be a mistake. Do you think that the listing I found in Palermo's marriage indexes for Nunzio Castrovinci marrying Anna M. Patella in August 1895 could be this Nunzio and Marianna?
If that could be the case, I wonder why I didn't see Filippo and Carmela, the part of the family I know about? Actually, I don't even know when they were married.

Wow. It even gives his exact address in New London. I wonder whether or not his family showed up in any of the censuses.
Re: Looking for a Giuseppe Castrovinci
There are 2 Nunzio Castrovinci listed in the NYC death Index (one is a child of 1 year...the other's age matches the Nunzio whose Passport you have)
Castrovinci Nunzio 1 y Jul 4 1915 20313 Manhattan
Castrovinci Nunzio 70 y Feb 4 1939 1051 Queens
You can send away for the death certificate for a fee from NYC Vital records. However, death certificates are only as accurate as the information provided by the living informant...

edit: Just a reminder that NYC death is listed WHERE the person DIED, not where the person lived...

Thank you for taking the time with all this. Was Marianna listed in the death index also? I wonder what happened to her.

Re: Looking for a Giuseppe Castrovinci
I did not find Marianna in the NYC death index. the index only goes up to 1948, and she would have had to die in NY. She may have passed in Connecticut...

That seems like that family all right. I was checking the dates based on the passport document. I also checked documents I got just in case. I realized I actually had page one of the 1930 Census, but didn't have page two. I think it was the other last name being crossed out that threw me.

Re: Looking for a Giuseppe Castrovinci
Can you please post the 1922 passenger list for Philip (Filippo) Patella? It says that was when this one arrived. I wonder who his family is. I just realized that it looked like the U.S. Census says Nunzio emigrated in 1900 and Mary T in 1905. Maybe that part's wrong.
Re: Looking for a Giuseppe Castrovinci
The name crossed out on the 1930 Census looks like the married name of their daughter and her husband - Licastro - another clue
As for Filippo Patella...I'll check for a passenger list right now...

Thank you! I wasn't thinking of the Licastro name as being her married name.

Manifest for Filippo Patella traveling to UNCLE Nunzio Castrovinci in NYC, leaving father Salvatore in Palermo.
Filippo is a shoemaker, age 17.

Re: Looking for a Giuseppe Castrovinci
Does the name underneath Josephine Licandro (I looked at it zoomed in to be sure) look like Rudolf? He was 7 and she was 26 and widowed, it looks like. Her husband, or at least Rudolf's father, was born in Italy, according to the census. Is the name Licandro likely to have alot of possibilities? I wonder where I could find out his name.
Re: Looking for a Giuseppe Castrovinci
Very often the information for things like immigration dates are inaccurate on the Census...especially the later the census since it was longer ago to remember...

Re: Looking for a Giuseppe Castrovinci
Would it be possible for you to post the picture of Filippo Patella's manifest? They don't let anyone download the documents on the Ellis Island site. It was the SS Presidente Wilson sailing from Naples on September 22, 1921.
