I cannot find anything on the consulate websites.
If I renounced italian citizenship now, does anyone know if I could reobtain it through marriage, or residancy in Italy??

funny you should say that kontessa, its the same with me.
I think "y" and "j" are surname varients of their italian originials.
but yes i presented documentation of the name change at my appointment and thank God they accepted.

my grandpa's birth certificate only had his first and last name it. Then on his marriage certificate it had his middle initial "m" and on his death certificate it had his middle name written out "michael".

Nn capisco perche' nn c'e' la lettera 'j' nella lingua italiana. Ho pensato che alcuni dialetti di sud usano la lettera. come barese, napuletano.

my last name was americanized to Jacobellis from Iacobellis.

i dont think i understand. Did they get married in a church? because if so the church does all your licensing for you i believe. In that case you put where you were married not where you were licensed.

Oh yes, i tell everyone the phonetic is "Ya-kobellis" but after a while i gave up as people just keep pernouncing the "J" as an english "J".
