Trust me - it CAN cause problems...
There is a law in Italy that no child can have the EXACT same name as their LIVING father... However if you have different MIDDLE names you're set!
Another peculiarity is that Italy does not recognize Suffixes... like Roman Numerals or JR/SR - which is what I am ...

Can you give us some more info on your grandfather... birthdate... parents name... children... stuff like that... I can take a look on Ancestry and see if anything pops!

JP - I did the email thing... and snail mail... and FedEx ... I was about to despair when 5 weeks later... the birth certificate just showed up in my mail box... by regular mail... even though I had enclosed a prepaid return FedEx package . Then 3 weeks AFTER THAT... I got ANOTHER copy... this time ...

Drew - I wouldn't stress... it takes them a bit... but you'll get it - and you'll definitely need the new wording.
Gianna - I said card - in terms of Alien Registration - but I think we're talking about the same thing... it's actually a two page questionnaire which my grandfather had to fill out ...

My line was Grandfather - MOTHER - Me ... so my mom's birth certificate was essential. But they also took my fathers. (And, in theory, he isn't in my direct line.)
I think it was more the fact that I HAD all of the certificates.
I believe when asking for my grandmother's birth ...

Oh - I forgot the last part...
To get aroung the "problem" all I need to do is change my name... drop the Jr. and even change just a leter of my middle name... and then no problem... it's just that that can take months and months.
