Help identifying Risorgimento uniform
Hello,
My family has a set of paintings that have been passed down for many generations.
These paintings are of my GGGGgrandfather and his 2nd wife (his first wife, my GGGGGrandmother died young)
He was from Novara. From family history we have been told that he fought with Garabaldi, and when he came home to Rome he became an officer in the royal guard. The first king of Italy Umberto set up the royal guard.
Nobody in my family knew the names of these relatives in the pictures. I believe I have figured out who they were by combing through 80 years of Novara baptism/birth records.
Is there any registers of names for the Risorgimento?
I have been researching the uniform he is wearing but can’t find one that is an exact match.
Who is on the medal he is wearing?
I have come across a great website for the Risorgimento research but it’s all in Italian and it’s extensive.
Any help or clues would be wonderful.
I believe his name was Luigi Clerici and he would have been born around 1805 (I am waiting on records from Novara about his birth still) & his first child was born in 1830.
Thank you for any help you can give

Emily - While I do not know much about this, I was able to find a few links for you to browse through.
Museum of Risorgimento in Milan - http://www.museodelrisorgimento.mi.it/
Museum Risorgimento of Italy - http://www.museorisorgimentotorino.it/index.php?l=en
Museum of Risorgimento - http://www.civicimuseiudine.it/en/civic ... sorgimento
Perhaps you will be able to find a good tidbit of information with some of these links. It takes a good deal of detective work to achieve genealogical finds! Good luck....

I hope they help. I do not speak Italian either, but some of the sites have an UnionJack flag to the upper right, that is to see an English version of the site. Other than that, there is
- Google Translate https://translate.google.com/ which translates (free) web pages
- Bing Translate https://www.bing.com/translator/
- Chrome Browser - https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/p ... index.html that translates whole pages if you do a good deal of research
- Alternately, you can use your cell phone if that is possible.

Re: Help identifying Risorgimento uniform
Hello its Emily,
I've been doing research on this thread of mine and I found this very interesting site with information on the death of a Luigi Clerici. Not sure if this is my Luigi Clerici but was wondering if anyone can help translate some of the writing. I'm wondering if there are any family names such as children or spouses mentioned that might refer to my family.
https://www.europeana.eu/portal/en/reco ... ource.html
Thanks for any help
