I love eating lasagna as made by my family, especially my wife who, when she makes large amounts of meat tomato sauce to save and freeze for future usage, soaks her partially cooked meatballs and sausages for hours in that cooking tomato sauce so they absorb all that wonderful tomato sauce and therefore taste extra special both in and out of lasagna.
All four of my grandparents came from Italy and emigrated before they were married to America. My paternal grandparents came from Sicily (Racalmuto and Polizzi Generosa). My maternal grandparents came from Bari (Altamura and Grumo Appula). My maternal grandmother never made lasagna until her daughter, my mother, married my father and was introduced to lasagna by her mother in law (my paternal grandmother). My mother loved it and learned how to cook lasagna from her mother in law, and then taught her own mother and her sisters how to make it.
Is lasagna a regional food in Italy and not a universal dish?

Re: Origins of Lasagna
This may help, if you translate it from Italian:
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lasagne_al_forno
However, I'd say it's a regional dish, in the sense that several recipes do exist, and may be given different names, for what is conceptually the same dish.

Re: Origins of Lasagna
Lasagna is associated with regions like Emilia-Romagna, Sicily, and Puglia, each with its own twist on the classic recipe. While it's not identical everywhere in Italy, its popularity has made it a beloved dish worldwide, celebrated for its versatility and rich flavors.
