Looking for Ignazio Iacono emmigration records...

Hi all -

Expert help greatly appreciated! I'm looking to find a record of my great-grandfather's emmigration from Sicily to NYC. He was born in Favara around the 1870-1880's. My grandfather Girolamo came here in 1919 on the SS Belvedere. His mother (Ignazio's wife) Francesca Grano came here in April 1921 on the SS Canada with Girolamo's younger brothers - although it's confusing because it has writing on the manifest that says Ignazio (junior) was a US citizen - even though he's 12. Perhaps this was a second trip for Francesca and Ignazio was born here? My Dad says no... but memory is sketchy at 81.

Ignazio worked with his son Girolamo at Con Edison and was killed by leaking gas when he was 50. So, I'm trying to figure out who was here first - the son Girolamo in 1919, and then Dad Ignazio, and then Francesca and kids in 1921. The youngest is Gennaro who is six on this trip, and would have been born in Italy in around 1915.

Any ideas? Is it possible it's a mistake on the US citizenship? I've written to request the record....

Based on the information on the manifest that includes Ignazio Jr.'s NYC birth certificate number and shows Franceca was in the US in 1908 and 1909, I don't believe that there was a mistake about his citizenship. The real proof will be the birth certificate which you requested. And there should also be another manifest for Francesca.

Fantastic work, Valarie!

Since son Gennaro was born in Italy about 1915, Francesca and Ignazio likely both returned to Italy. Still looking for Ignazio's later manifest.

Thank you so much Biff and Valerie!!!! My father who is now 81 (another Ignazio) didn't know that his father came over to Pittson, PA - although he's always known he had cousins in Pennsylvania... My 1930, Girolamo had married Maria Maddalena Vella (who came here in 1920 with her father Pietro from Girgenti) and had moved to Brooklyn. My Dad was born a year after his grandfather was killed by the gas. Girolamo continued to work there, and then tragically, Girolamo was killed with in a horrible car crash in Brooklyn at 50, so the family history was lost - even though they're all relatively recent immigrants!

Amazing detective work - I didn't even know there was a second page to the manifests to see all that detail!

Saw the name Iacono as my great-grandmother was Francesca Iacono married to Calergo Bissi from Siculiana...on the other side of Agrigento.
