yes, this is typical for countries with a social system. in germany we too have really good health care and you barely ever pay.
- kids till 18 get everything free (exams, doctor visits, medication etc., even birth control)

gertrude sounds so not italian. i was trying to find a passenger list since the census said she came over after her parents did. it is so strange that i can't locate any passenger lists for that family.

Maybe he was also born in Italy? If he lists "Alien" in 1910 Census, then he wasn't born in the USA and you will have to proceed from the great-grandfather and prove that he did not naturalize before his son was born.

the cousin already has an appointment (NYC consulate) and they only thing he still needs is the greatgrandfather's birth certificate which cannot be found. other documents such as social security, passport application, military are not enough to the consulate. i also know that he submitted the 1910 ...

apparently a cousin from my husband is working on the italian citizenship as well! nobody ever mentioned that to us. after he had his appointment in a few months, we can use all his documents!

about the apostille i'm sure it works like with our marriage certificate (we got married in the US). we needed the county clerk to notarize and the secretary of state then gave us the apostille. here in germany we officially need a translation too but so far nobody ever asked for that and the ...
