Unknown Parents

Post by picdak »

Recently found a marriage index for a Giuseppe Esposito. I presume he or someone in his lineage was a foundling--hence the Esposito surname. In the column on the index where parents names would be written, there are three letters which I read to be A.G.P. Could someone please explain those letters and their meaning.

Also, this groom's place of residence on the marriage record is "Establishment of Annunziata" which appears to be a jurisdiction in Naples. Annunziata also refers to a Catholic complex known for it's orphanage going back to the 13th century. Would it be commonplace to give reference to that orphanage as where someone is from? He is age 46 at the time of this marriage.

Ave Gratia Plena - he was the foundling, and, yes, that was likely the orphanage.

Children were sent or brought from all over the province to Annunziata. They have records that can be accessed for a fee.
