=Peter=

Hi Indie and others. I descend directly from Ettore Fillippini through his daughter Delida (Adelaide) Fillippini. Indie - you must be the niece/nephew of Ruby (Fillippini) Quinn and Albert, Arthur and Clara (Fillippini)Brassfield - and child of Bobby Shoupe? I have no wife and family for Bobby - did not find much about him.

Our NY Fillippini/Colombo cousin visited Ettore's hometown in Italy - here is a quote from a recent correspondence I received from them :

"Mary FIllippini Colombo (my grandmother) used to say that her father, Ettore Filippini came from Brescia (also in Northern Italy and not far from Cardino al Campo, near the Alps) - this was later confirmed when we visited the Colombo relatives in Cardino al Campo in the year 2000, and they said they remember Mary saying the same thing when she and Frank visited them in 1960. Cardino al Campo was a nice town in a beautiful area and Brescia also looks like a beautiful place which I would like to see. "

From Barb- granddaughter of Maria Fillippini and Frank Columbo.

There are a number of us alive and well who are your kin. Please repost and let me hear from you.

Anybody on this list familiar with Brescia - who can tell me something about it?

You said, "We need to confirm the exact town of origin, this could be listed on a manifest, naturalization records, marriage records, a death certificate, or even an obituary. Many of the older obits read like a life story, and yet some are simply written. By pulling as many documents as you can, you build solid clues to follow."

This is great advice, and I will keep this as an outline/structure to follow. In other news, I have have heard back (via email) from a Sister Margie at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Jellico, TN who has also been incredibly kind. In response to my queries to her, she offered to take a picture of Ettore's headstone in the St. Boniface Cemetery and mail it to me, along with "other information."

Maybe marriage records? Or children's baptismal records? I won't get my hopes up, the picture alone is a great gift.

Again, thanks a million (or should I say "mille"? ;-) and I will report back, just for fun, anytime I get new info. It's so nice to have people who know, understand, care...

Have a great day, everybody!

Hi All,

I am also a descendent of Ettore Fillippini through his daughter Mollie. Ettore is my great great grandfather. Has anyone been able to successfully find any other information on Ettore, in particular immigration or birth information?

It is wonderful to see so many of his descendents working on putting together our common ancestral lines. I have been very surprise and pleased at finding so many people working on this.

Best Regards,
Adele

Hello! We came upon this thread by accident and now we are sitting at the table on Christmas Night reading this together! My grandfather is Louis H. Dambros son of Katie "Fillippini" Dambros . Our family lives in Louisville, KY and were excited to read this whole thread with lots of unknown information. My grandfather (Louis H. Dambros) and his wife (Ruth) remember MANY of the people listed in this thread including Katie's brother and sisters and their children as they lived near many of them! Thanks so much for all who contributed to this information.

Ettore Filippi was my great great grandfather. His daughter D'lida (as my grandfather spelled it) married Charles Smith. They had sons OD,QT,JR and Danny, and an infant son who died abt 2 months, Verlin from whooping cough. OD is my grandfather. I'm looking for as much information on Ettore or Adelaide/Delida/D'lida as possible, and I'm happy to share what little bit of info I have on this family as well. Delida is buried in Wallins Creek, KY. Charles Smith, OD Smith, and his wife Ann are buried in Morristown, TN. OD and Ann had one son, Terry Smith, who is buried in Houston, TX at the VA cemetery and daughter Patty Smith-Chancey (my mother), who is still living.

My grandparents kept in touch with every relative they knew existed and I am envious of that. Flood my inbox, cousins!!

Delida Filippini, was the mother of Dannie K. Smith(living), my grandfather, as well as QT, JR, and OD Smith in Harlan County KY in the Wallins Creek coal miners camp(where she is buried), with her husband Charles David Smith. Danny(who changed the spelling of his name as an adult), was the youngest, and only living son, of the brothers and the only one to be given a full name. They(Delida and Charles) were unable to spell, the census takers erroneously listed JR as Charles Smith Jr, OD as Odie, and QT as Quinten. Delida passed from cancer When Danny was 5. I have a picture of Delida and Charles during their courtship in front of a coal tipple.
