Vincenza Bruno - Frignano Maggiore, Caserta, Italy

Post by erinrf »

HIII!

I am so glad that I found this group. In the last year I have joined my dad in trying to find our families birth and death records and everything in-between. My GGM was reportedly from Frignano Maggiore, Caserta, Italy. I have looked everywhere I know to look and I cannot find her birth certificate. I emailed the Comune in Frignano in early June requesting a copy and have not heard back from them. My GGM was one of 3-4 children. We have found 3 birth certificates and you guessed it, it is my GGM's that seems to be missing. Is there anyone that has a contact in Frignano or maybe you have one more wish from the jeanie in a bottle? I feel pretty defeated and I really would love to find this record for me and my family. To add to the mystery, my GMM disappeared a month after her youngest was born. My GGF stated on in Declaration of Intention that she went back to Italy, where she died.

If you think that you can help me out, I would love to hear from you.

You give no approximate date of birth for your GGM or her siblings.
Do you believe they were all born in Frignano?

For reference purposes:
Birth of Luigi Bruno in Frignano Maggiore in 1850
#66
Parents: Mariano Bruno, 40, seller of crafts; and Rosa Orabona, 26, seamstress
On page 2 there is an annotation of marriage on 26 July 1876 in Trentola with Rosa d'Aniello, daughter of Michele

Thank you very much for your reply!

I am so sorry for the lack of details.

My great grandmother was born in Frignano Italy in 1888. She had 3 siblings, all born in Frignano.

Anna Maria 1886
Vincenza 1888 (my great grandmother)
Maria Anna 1890
Mariano 1894

We have a copy of all of my great grandmother's siblings birth records, we are needing a copy of my great grandmother's birth record.

Thank you for any help that is given!! :)

The Mariano whose birth I posted above was also a sibling, and most likely the first born who was named after Luigi's father. It is likely this Mariano died and the Mariano born in 1894 was given the name.

You probably noticed that the first Mariano was born in Trentola, and the second in Frignano.

Was Vincenza married in Frignano?
What was her husband's name?

Yes, there was an older brother, Mariano, that was born (1878) and died (1878) in Trentola. My family then moved from Trentola to Frignano where they had their remaining children.

Vincenza was not married in Frignano. From 1920 census records Vincenza indicates that she arrived to the U.S. in 1906 and she married my great-grandfather, Vito Cortese, in 1911 in New York. In May of 1928 my VIncenza had her last child and one month later she was never seen in New York again. My Vito submitted his Declaration of Intention to naturalize in 1932. On the form he indicated that my great-grandmother went back to Italy where she died. We have never been able to verify this story, but I would love to find her grave in Italy before my dad and aunts pass to give them closure. My family has been searching for records on Vincenza Bruno since the mid 60's.

Have you tried reaching out to other genealogy resources or organizations specializing in Italian ancestry? They might have additional contacts or tips for locating birth records in Frignano. Don't lose hope, sometimes it just takes a bit of persistence and patience to uncover these hidden gems.
