Hi, Jeff. I got my grandparents' birth certificates on the day I went to the comune....IOW, no waiting. I walked in about 20 minutes after they opened, had my grandparents' names, their parents' names, and DOBs, and within 15 minutes I had both certified birth certs.
At the time, I didn't speak ...

Re: Name discrepancies and "One and the Same Person" court orders
I apologize for my late answer.... I have been ill recently.
Both my translator and the woman who handled my application told me I could use the certificate.
I had to have a lawyer draw up the one-and-the-same certificate, have it notarized, and have the secretary of state apostille. It was my only ...

Re: Name discrepancies and "One and the Same Person" court orders
I had similar problems, and an Italian lawyer told me I would have to go to court to have them all changed. My birth county would not do that, nor would they give me a "one and the same" certificate signed by a judge. I let that atty and went through an agency. THey told me all I needed was to write ...

My Citizenship Is Official
Cari amici,
I wanted to share my good news that after 8 years, reams of paperwork, a lot of stress, and countless months and months of waiting, I have my final documents and am officially a citizen of La Repubblica Italiana. :D :D :D
To those on this board who helped me with encouragement and ...

My understanding is that your grandmother will have to request it.

Re: Michigan Birth Certificates Sealed
Well, I just checked since I couldn't believe that a state had such a law, and sure enough, you can't get the birth certificate of a living relative from Michigan unless you are the parent, legal guardian, atty of record, or have POA.

Re: Help how do I get a one in the same document?
This depends on where you live... I had a problem where my grandparents' and mother's names were anglicized at some point, and my atty in Italy wanted a one-and-the-same document. Some counties will do them for you if you can prove the person is the same. You may have to go to court to do so. Others ...

Re: Adolfo/Arnold name discrepancy
I can only tell you my experience, although it is a little similar.
My grandfather was born Donato, and my grandmother was born Liberata. Sometime after they moved to the US, their names were anglicized to Dan and Loretta. Because I could not get the courts to legally change the names, I had to ...

Re: Italian Citizenship non-direct line issue
I had a similar but different situation: My non-Italian father was born in 1917, and there was no birth certificate for him. However, I was applying through my maternal side, so no one ever asked me for his certificate. That said, I applied in Italy, and they did not require a lot of the stuff some ...

Re: Application In
I'm not going to argue here. Yes, I understand what you are saying, but that was not the point. I think an Italian lawyer knows better than we do what is right and wrong information, and he said the comune gave me wrong information. Period.

Re: It has gotten ridiculous
I just want to add a little to this. I can't speak about Boston, but I live in the west, and LA is our consulate. Appointments there, the last time I checked, were 18 months or more out. In addition, they require more than other consulates, and they are slow on decisions.
I decided to go through a ...
