Given name Sarah????

Post by DebDavi »

I need some ideas. I found a family tree in my grandfathers baby book. One of the names said Crucifix, so I am assuming that is Crocifissa. And another said Sarah! I am assuming there is no such name in Sicily?? They lived in San Giuseppe Jato. Sarah was born around 1850.
I think they just called her that once they came to they US.
Any Ideas??
Thanks!

Sara is listed as an Italian first name and adapted from Sarah and/or Rosaria. =Peter=

While any name and its derivation or alteration is possible, I referred to the www.gens.labo.net website for first Italian first names and their derivation or alteration as an accepted defintion of first names. =Peter=

Or it could be SERAPHINE thats the way it was spelled on my mothers birth certificate, but she was known as Sarah.

My 2nd great grandmother was Crocefissa Passalacqua born in Carini, Provincia Palermo, Sicily. In this country she want by Sofia (or Sophia).

If her name is written as "Crucifix" I would bet the original name is in fact Crocefissa (a popular Sicilian name of the early 19th Century)

Male Serafino is listed in italian first name listing but not Serafina. Gens.labo.net (nomi). This does not mean that people called Serafina or Seraphina are not valid italian frist names it is just that they are not "officially italian first names". =Peter=

Serafina is the feminine version of the Polish SERAFIN and the Italian Serafino.

It means 'burning one' I believe....

Serafino and Serafina were common names in Italy, now they are a bit out of fashion. My great aunt's name was Serafina but everybody used to call her Fina.....

Good Morning,

just an add from Sicily: Sara (Sarah in the Holy Bible was the wife of Abramo) is a common name in Sicily. Serafino and Serafina (in the Holy Bible are Angels) aren't so common today. I never meet a Serafino in Sicily. Crocefissa or Crocifissa (nick name Croce or Crocetta) unfortunately is a common name last century(male version is Crocefisso) but today is not so common give this name to newborn (thanks God).

Best Regards

Vincenzo (common name in Sicily)
I'm searching lost relatives and descendant of my greatgrandfather Vincenzo Genualdi (or Gennaldi or Genuardi) and my greatgrandmother Concetta Davola (their sons: Angela, Carmela, Antonio, Bartolomeo, Ernesto, Simone, Riccardo, Maria) went in Chicago,Ill., and New Orleans, in 1880-1920 from Sicily. Other family related : Jacobucci or Jacopucci (from Central Italy).
