Cleveland, Ohio, Calvary Cemetery

Hi,

Yes, more cemetery genealogy! :lol:

I was wondering if anyone happens to live close to this cemetery or visits it. My ggg-grandparents are buried there and I would really like a pic of their headstone, but really do not want to take the 5 or so hour drive. :wink: (at the same time i am surprised I haven't since I found out where they are buried!!)

Their names are Rosario and Domenica Imbroito. They are in Section 5 Lot 384 Graves 1 & 2.

I know it is asking a lot. I would really appreciate if anyone is able to help me out with this.

I was recently lucky to have found my gg-grandma's gravesite with now the only pic of her we have besides from her passport. I am hoping for the same luck with Rosario and Domenica, as we have no pictures of them...I am hoping their gravestone might.

You may want to call them and see if anyone could take the pictures for you. You'll have to google Cleveland Catholic Cemeteries for their number. We live in the NE Ohio area, and most of my family is buried there, but it's in a pretty bad area. I'll keep your post; we'd like to go and decorate the graves around All Saints Day if we feel safe enough to go there. I'm sorry I can't be more help. If the area was safer I'd be glad to help.

Tom,

Thank you for your response. I had called to ensure they were buried there and found out where. I didn't ask about getting a picture because i doubt they would do that. Maybe I'll call again and ask. I guess it can't hurt.

I was worried that the cemetery could be in a rough area. I do not know Cleveland at all, so I thought that would be a possibility. That is sad you can't feel safe to go visit your family's gravesites.

I will post if i am somehow able to get this picture, otherwise if you do happen to go there I would extremely appreciate your help.

It is too bad that the area is so bad. For a while it was a major drug area, and funeral processions were actually robbed. In the late 1990's a caretaker stopped my parents and told them it wasn't safe to visit there. It was cleaned up for a while and we were able to go fairly regularly, but now it's fairly dangerous again. My grandparents are in Sec. 8 so if we can go in the fall I'll definitely get some digital photos for you. I took photos of all of my great grandparents', grandparents' and some other family members' graves when it was still safe.

Rosario and Domenica Imbroito died as paupers. Though buried in Cavalry Cemetery, there was no money for a headstone. Their daughter-in-Law, Gaetanna Gentilly, swore she would some day have the money to buy a marker for their grave. She finally was able to do it before she herself died in 1955, five years after her husband, Francesco Imbroito died. So the headstone that you referred to was bought long after their death by my grandmother for my great grandparents, Rosario and Domenica Imbroito.

Deb - My husband and I plan to visit the cemetery in a couple of weeks. I will plan to get photos for you. Let me know how to get them to you. Sunnyd
