Vincenzo Tallerico - Casino (Catanzaro)

Post by jeri71 »

I am tracing my great-grandmother's line. On Maria Romano's ship manifest, it states that she's traveling to her brother-in-law Vincenzo Tallerico's house in Castle Gate, UT (she's on page 6, line 3 of this manifest, written as M Concetta Romano.)

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipM ... 0039%2ETIF

Maria's sister, Rosina's manifest states that she's traveling to meet her husband Vincenzo Tallerico in Weed, California.

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipM ... 0135030262

I think this might be his arrival manifest but need help reading the handwriting (he's on line 16)
http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipm ... 0880080363

Vincenzo may have used the American name 'James' once he was in the U.S. At some point he left Castle Gate and moved to Weed, California. I know there was a Tallerico family next door to Maria and her husband in the 1920 census but I haven't been able to locate Vincenzo on that census. I would like to track down any family he traveled with or trace the names of the people he left behind Italy.

Thanks! :D

Perhaps if you checked "Casino" (didn't we go through this town name change a few days ago?) telephone directory at www.paginebianche.it and put in Tallerico and beneath that the current town name and click CERCA you may find persons surnamed Tallerico currently in residence with whom you may wish to write and request information as to whether they are family.

I think the age is right on the census, the 1881 birthdate matches the 1930 census at any rate. I wonder why the birth date would be wrong on both draft cards? What are the question marks on the first card. Can you view the actual card?

I can't figure it out. Both census records put him at birth date 1881 and both draft cards put him born in 1886. It's possible that they could be two different men... but both with wives from Casino named Rosina?

Looks like there are two possibilities for brothers, Francesco Tallerico on the ship manifest and maybe Luigi Tallerico living with him in the 1920 census? I haven't been able to find any parent's names on anything though.

hi, it is a mystery...
in 1930 census:

1930 United States Federal Census
about Vianocnyo Tallerico
Name: Vianocnyo Tallerico
Home in 1930: Dunsmuir, Siskiyou, California
Age: 45
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1885
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Head
Spouse's Name: Rosa

Race: White
Occupation:

Education:

Military service:

Rent/home value:

Age at first marriage:

Parents' birthplace: View Image
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Vianocnyo Tallerico 45 (Vincenzo imm. 1910)
Rosa Tallerico 43 ( imm. 1921)
Caterina Tallerico 18 ( daughter-b. Italy imm 1921 )
Frank Tallerico 9 ( twin b. California)
Dorothy Tallerico 9 ( twin b. California)
Samuel Tallerico 7 (b. California)

now your Rosina Romano travelled with children Giovanni/John b. abt 1912 Italy and Filomena b. abt 1913 Italy
but I no read this 2 children in the census above....

so this census is no abt right person???

I found a Caterina Tallerico travelling with mother Rosina Piperio and joining at father/husband Vincenzo Tallerico in Dunsmuir, California
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about Caterina Tallerico
Name: Caterina Tallerico
Arrival Date: 5 Jan 1921
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1912
Age: 9
Gender: Female
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Italian (South) (Italian)
Ship Name: Braga
Search Ship Database: Search the Braga in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Nativity: Italy
Line: 17
Microfilm Serial: T715
Microfilm Roll: T715_2905
Birth Location: Italy
Birth Location Other: casino
Page Number: 161

it is possible that are 2 Vincenzo Tallerico both born in Casino and with a Rosina wife, and living both in Dunsmuir, CA?

but the only death records that I found:

-Rosina Romano Tallerico death:3 Jul 1959 Siskiyou birth: 26 Apr 1890 Other Country; mother: Laruffa

-Vincenzo S Tallerico death: 20 Jul 1962 Siskiyou birth: 30 Apr 1886 Italy mother: Scalise

you can say me the children names of YOUR Vincenzo & RosinaTallerico ??

Hi Suanj..... :D

Poster has more than one thread going with related research to the same family line:

http://italiangenealogy.tardio.com/Foru ... 12330.html

I placed Rosina with children and husband on a possible 1930 census.

Hugs,

Hi jeri71. I was reading your topics on the Romano family from Altilia and after talking with my father discovered that we are down the lines related in one way but possibly two ways. I am directly related to the Romano family and the Mirabelli family. It would be nice to hear from you and maybe I can give you some more info on your ancestors and Altilia where I have been several times. You can pm me or email me at romferr@hotmail.com. I am in Vancouver BC where there is quite a big population of people who immigrated from Altilia considering how small of a town it is. R.Ferrari
