This is the right place to start your genealogy search.
I am tracing my great-grandmother's line. On Maria Romano's ship manifest, it states that she's traveling to her brother-in-law Vincenzo Tallerico's house in Castle Gate, UT (she's on page 6, line 3 of this manifest, written as M Concetta Romano.)
Vincenzo may have used the American name 'James' once he was in the U.S. At some point he left Castle Gate and moved to Weed, California. I know there was a Tallerico family next door to Maria and her husband in the 1920 census but I haven't been able to locate Vincenzo on that census. I would like to track down any family he traveled with or trace the names of the people he left behind Italy.
Perhaps if you checked "Casino" (didn't we go through this town name change a few days ago?) telephone directory at www.paginebianche.it and put in Tallerico and beneath that the current town name and click CERCA you may find persons surnamed Tallerico currently in residence with whom you may wish to write and request information as to whether they are family.
in 1918, James Tallerico was resident in Siskiyou, CA:

I cannot find Vincenzo/ James Tallerico born in 1886 and living in Siskiyou, California in the 1920; the only that I found seeming born around 188... but it is possible that the age is wrong in the census???

I think the age is right on the census, the 1881 birthdate matches the 1930 census at any rate. I wonder why the birth date would be wrong on both draft cards? What are the question marks on the first card. Can you view the actual card?
I can't figure it out. Both census records put him at birth date 1881 and both draft cards put him born in 1886. It's possible that they could be two different men... but both with wives from Casino named Rosina?
Looks like there are two possibilities for brothers, Francesco Tallerico on the ship manifest and maybe Luigi Tallerico living with him in the 1920 census? I haven't been able to find any parent's names on anything though.

Hi jeri71. I was reading your topics on the Romano family from Altilia and after talking with my father discovered that we are down the lines related in one way but possibly two ways. I am directly related to the Romano family and the Mirabelli family. It would be nice to hear from you and maybe I can give you some more info on your ancestors and Altilia where I have been several times. You can pm me or email me at romferr@hotmail.com. I am in Vancouver BC where there is quite a big population of people who immigrated from Altilia considering how small of a town it is. R.Ferrari
Italians have a long and deep-rooted tradition of beliefs about luck and things that give either good or bad luck. In Italy there are colloquial names for bad luck. Think of:"sfiga" or "jella" (read it as "yella), but the most scary thing for millions of Italians is "Il Malocchio", which translate ...
