Delfanti family

Post by KrazyZia »

Hello All,

I've got a bit of research to do here. Boston Consulate's Mr. C has asked for spelling corrections on my paternal grandmother's papers. I'll need to find her parents information from the late 1800's early 1900's. They were both from Northern Italy (don't know exact town).

Luigi Delfanti and Theresa Milani (probably spelled Teresa in Italy)
They settled in Gloucester, MA, USA in the late 1800's early 1900's. My paternal grandmother Rachel Clara Delfanti was born 2/6/1910 in Gloucester, MA, USA.

Cesus information and shiplists are where I think I need to begin.

Any tips?

THANKS!!!

Welcome to the Forum!
For records in Italy you'll need to write to the comune where they were born.
This can usually be found on ship manifests after abt 1900 (also earlier), and on naturalization papers after 1906.

Is this the correct marriage record?

Stone Cutter
born in Italy
parents Carlo and Caterina Pensa
first marriage

Teresa Milani
Milford
18 years old
Housekeeper
born in Italy
parents Giocondo and Rachel Sella

Milford Justice of the Peace and Town Clerk

possible 1920 census

It appears that Luigi naturalized abt 1910
Do you have his naturalization papers?
They should have his town of birth in Italy so you can request his records.

Hi suanj :D , here's the 1890 manifest that you found
Valarie

(age may be off a bit, don't think they were as careful with passenger information on earlier manifests)

thanks Valarie, sure is correct Luigi, the age must be 23 old or so and not 33... in any case is hard to find the birthplace.... because exist the surname DEL FANTE and DEL FANTI and DELFANTE and DELFANTI (without space)... however the area is north Emilia Romagna region and Lombardia region ....
hugs,

VJ,

Thanks so much for the marriage information! Right ON!! Ship lists look accurate for who I'm looking for too. I wonder when my great-grandmother came... If they were married here, then she must have come to the USA with her own family at an earlier date. Maybe a shiplist for Giocondo Milani & family or a Rachel Sella & family would be more revealing.

This is starting to make sense!

THANK YOU

Hey Joanna :D ,
Did I post the 1887 manifest while you were writing?
They all came over together.

Just a quick question on the Delfanti name. Is that also from the Lombardia Region which name goes to which region?

Looks like I'll be making a visit to the Kennedy Library in Boston very soon!

Thanks for all the help!
