Canadian immigration records 1953 Halifax

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Canadian immigration records 1953 Halifax

Post by Nebcan »

Hello everyone, I'm trying to get the ship manifests and hopefully some photos of the ship my father and family came to Canada on in 1953. The only information I have which is not confirmed is that they arrived in May of 1953 to Halifax port (port21/pier21 I think) from Italy and I believe the ship was called the "Conte Biancamano". I have been trying to find info online but have been unable to get passenger lists or to even confirm that the ship socked there at that time. Not sure if I'm looking in the wrong places but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks all.

On my first trip to Italy I traveled on the SS Conte Biancomano in 1952 to and fro and landed at Halifax which during the post war years was a landing port for Italian immigrants to Canada due to US immigration restrictions prohibited many Italians from entering the USA.

Yes there are fotos and since the ships proceeded to NYC you might research the arrival manifests for the ships arrival at NYC. Go to this website

Hi!
Here's a Pier 21 database (free) of ships
Start by finding your ship's name in the drop down menu
http://www.pier21.ca/research/research- ... -database/

And as Peter suggested, there is a 11 May 1953 New York arrival on ancestry. com (subscription site) with links to the manifest pages

search "Conte Biancamano"

Thanks everyone for the help. I have tried the links you all have provided however I am still having trouble finding the passenger lists. I have found pictures now thanks to your help (thanks Peter). What I want to do is make a plaque for my father with a picture of the biancamano and a copy of the passenger list with his name as well as his mother, sister and brother. Maybe I'm searching the wrong phrases, I have tried every variation of words I can think of but still no luck. I will keep looking but thanks again for all the help.

This is an excellent site devoted entirely to the SS ConteBiancomano for your records. www.maritimematters.com/tag/conte-biancomano-ss (In order to get to this correct website go to the right and select TAG and then when the list of ships come up select Conte Biancomano) when the site comes up you can read all about the ship

If you would like to post the names you're looking for, perhaps we can help you look for their ship manifest.

His name is Joseph (Giuseppe) and last name is now Mazzolino but may have been Marzolino at the time of arrival. I had heard my Nonna talk of haow it got changed when my Nonno came here. Again thanks for your efforts.

Dear Nebcan in addition to the ship material i furnishe you there is a websitge that I stumbled across that was a formal painted renditon of the Conte Biancomano (or photograph?) painted black ( in the 1950's it was painted white) and I made a note of the website:

www.sydaby.eget.net/swe/emi_ref.htm and when I went back to make sure I can retrieve the picture with the same website and it did not work any longer so I already have been "spotted" and refused re-entry to the Conte Biancomano site.

I am telling you this since your "new" so perhaps you can get thru and don't let the picture go and print it! Type the website manually on your computer and DO NOT click the website above!!!!!!!!!=Peter=

I did a little rersearching and I found thatg the www.sydaby.eget.net/swe/emi_ref.htm will lead you to pictures of ships (on top) and then click on GREAT SHIPS (The Post Card of Ephemera Collection of Jeff Newman. His collection was sold on August 5,2007 to "GEORGE" at 718-338-8724 in NYC at 718-338-8724. Talk to "George" =Peter=
