How do I say this?

Post by beauac »

Since I just started learning Italian and only know a few words I want to know how to tell someone that I dont understand enough Italian to speak with them . Should I say, I dont speak Italian or I dont speak enough Italian or something like, I just started learning Italian or I speak only a little Italian. Sorry if this is confusing, I just want the Italian translation of the best one to use from above. Grazie

Take a look at this post http://forum.wordreference.com/showthread.php?t=56423

While you are there, take the time to study the WordReference forums and also the great online dictionary ( http://www.wordreference.com/iten/ ).

"Mi dispiace ma non parlo italiano." Or "Mi dispiace ma non capisco italiano." Would work. The first says you don't speak Italian, the second that you don't understand italian. You can then ask "Parla inglese?" If you want to ask if they speak English.

There are other ways of course of saying it, but those seem the easiest.
