The births, deaths, and marriage registers for the years 1785-1923 are available on microfilm numbers 1388849 (sections 27-33) and 1388850 (section 1 for deaths 1888-1923). Order them at the Family History Center nearest you (addresses, etc can be found at 222.familysearch.org)

Re: Vielmetti, Tavonatti, Stancher in Tavon
Well, you found one of them here
My family, Vielmettis and Tavonattis, came from Tavon and settled in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I was able to find a good bit of information by searching our local library's version of ancestry.com which got records back into the early 1800s.
I found this page in my searches:
http://www.ecomuseocoredo.it/album/album_00.htm
which you should try translating via Google, it's a Coredo and Tavon local history museum.

Hi. I just found your post and wanted to let you know that my maiden name is Stancher. My Grandfather was Davide Stancher. He came here from Tavon in 1903 with his mother Rosa who was a widow. My grandfather lived in Michigan and Wisconsin and he married a women by the name of Emma Nora. They had two children, Wesley and LaVerne. My father is Wesley. Do you think we are related at all?

Re: Vielmetti, Tavonatti, Stancher in Tavon
Thanks to those who have replied. I apologize for not having replied before now but life has interfered with my time for genealogy! I appreciate any help anyone can give me on my father's father. My dad is 77 years old and his father died when he was only 16 so he doesn't know much about him. He has treasured the information that I have been able to provide him so far.
That said...
My nonno was Guiseppe Franceso Vielmetti and he changed his name to Joseph or Joe Wilmetti (or similar variations; the spelling changed frequently) when he came to this country. He immigrated to this country in 1909 and he spent some time in Pennsylvania in Minersville and Jeanette. He settled in Superior, Wyoming some time before 1917. His brother was Emanuel Vielmetti and he changed his name to Emil Wilmette and he also spent some time in Pennsylvania before settling in Cook County, Illinois.
I have had trouble figuring out who their parents were. On his death certificate, they are listed as Joe Wilmetti and Rosa Tavonatti. I don't think this is necessarily accurate because it was filled out by his brother-in-law and I don't think they knew each other in the old country. I made copies of the film on Tavon baptisms from the Family History Library and when I found who should be my grandfather, it showed his mother as Rosa Stancher, not Rosa Tavonatti. I'm still trying to unravel the mystery behind my nonno's family.
Family legend says that he left Tyrol because he was in line to be a count and he didn't want to be so he left. I have found nothing to substantiate this but if anyone has any ideas on how to unravel this legend/myth, that would be great!
To the two people who replied with possible connections, I would say that it is very likely that our ancestors are tied together. Tavon seems to be such a small town that it seems impossible to believe that we can't be related with the same names in our backgrounds. If you have any information on your ancestors that can help us to make a connection, that would be great.
Thanks again for the help and if anyone has any other ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Re: Vielmetti, Tavonatti, Stancher in Tavon
Jennifer,
I'm going to throw a few curves inyour research...I hope that's ok?
Have you found ship manifests for Rosa or Joseph? If the manifests I found are correct then both are from Tavon Austria..which may be where Rosa got her name from. Also, I found 2 Rosa Stanche or Stanchi going through Ellis...one was travelling with a child (her son?) Davide...the manifest was faded.
I will post and then you can virew, ok?

Re: Vielmetti, Tavonatti, Stancher in Tavon
Nuccia, you are right on with the two documents for Joseph. Both are my grandfather. I have him in the Ellis Island database, WWI draft registration, and 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses. I lose him between 1910 (census; Pennsylvania) and 1917 (WWI draft registration; Wyoming). I have his brother tracked from immiration through death with some blank years. I have no record of his parents ever coming to this country.
If I were to post a copy of the image from the baptism record, could someone here help me translate it? I think that is where I ran into a brick wall. I really didn't understand what I was reading so I got stopped.
Thanks again,
Jennifer

Re: Vielmetti, Tavonatti, Stancher in Tavon
I've tried to attach my nonno's parents marriage record but at first it told me it was too big so I reduced it and now it is giving me an error message. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm usually pretty handy with computers but I can't figure out why it won't let me do it.
Thanks,
Jennifer
