Birth record, I hope someone can help me, not sure where to start

Post by yonomas84 »

I hope someone can help me. I'm trying to find the birth record for my great grandfather.

His name was Felipe Dipeo (Filippo Di Peo). He moved to Argentina and he was born on 1872 in Castelfidardo, Ancona.

His father's name was Tomas Di Peo and his mother was Angela Frana.

I got the marriage certificate from Argentina,
(he married an Argentinian woman) and it says "Felipe Dipeo", not sure if the names are the italian version, most of the info I got came from Argentina and sometimes they "translate" the names, Felipe - Filippo.

I tried to contact Castelfidardo comune, but so far no answers

If anyone could point me in a good direction or assist it would be great.

Also, the guy who wrote the marriage certificate didn't put an effort on the writing, so we are guessing his mom and dad last names.

Man, I've been reading old argentine certificates for a quite a long now but that's a really very though one to decipher. All I can read from that record is that Felipe was 35 years old when he got married. And most of them were 'jornaleros' (it's a very low qualification job category).

But aside from that, I can't really read anything else there, hope someone else can help you.

I just had a quick look at Family Search. Here is a 1909 baptism record of a Pedro Di Peo, the son of Filipe Di Peo and Maria Ferreira https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 72912which

which seems to fit.

Yonomas84:

1. I totally agree with estag. The record you have posted here is really tricky to decipher. (I think the mother may be Angela Grana, not Frana?) It would be great, if you could let us know the date, and which parish and town in Argentina the record is from. There are a lot of records online from Argentina at Family Search. Maybe we could help you locate the original record and see whether it gives any further information, so that we can work back from there.

2. Records for Castelfidardo, Ancona are on line. I took a look at the index for 1872 but no Filippo Di Peo there. Not sure that Di Peo is the correct spelling of the surname?

(I'm out for the rest of the day incase anyone else has any ideas about this.)

Thanks Angela, yes i got the same baptism certificate from family search, its him, Pedro Dipeo is his son. However that’s everything we have so far. I hired a guy that many people at this forum recommend (Giovanni) he searched Di peo last names in Castelfidardo but he could find any, so we are lost, not sure where to look.

Similar sounding surname that is found in Castelfidardo: Di Presa
Perhaps that is the surname?

Or... maybe the surname was Di Pompeo - and shortened?

Happy to help.

Either he wasn't actually born in Castelfidardo, Ancona or there is error in his surname, as Tessa has suggested. (De Feo is a name found in Ancona so another possibility.) Can you please post the full marriage extract please and/or give the date shown on marriage extract - 1907? It would be good to locate original record.

Possible spelling of surname - Di PEIO?

The death act below would need to be investigated much further to establish if it is connected to your family, but it had some information that I thought was interesting enough to post :-)

It is the death of Tommaso di Peio in 1917 (born in 1839) - His wife is Angela Frani
Tommaso's father is Felice di Peio.
If this Tommaso is correct, his age in 1872 for the birth of Filipe would have been about 33.
Although the place of death is far from Castelfidardo, I thought it was worth looking into.

Tommaso di Peio
Italy, Chieti, Civil Registration (State Archive), 1809-1930
Name: Tommaso di Peio
Event Type: Death
Event Date: 12 Jun 1917
Event Place: Semivicoli, Casacanditella, Chieti, Abruzzo, Italia
Gender: Male
Age: 78
Birth Year (Estimated): 1839
Birthplace: Casacanditella
Father's Name: Felice di Peio
Mother's Name: Margherita Orlando
Spouse's Name: Angela Frani

POSSIBILITY?

Wow, you guys are great!
Angela Frani (Angela Frana)
Tommaso di Peio (Tomas Dipeo)

That's an interesting coincidence, the parents' names sound very similar.
Is there an online registration of the children that they could have?
Maybe they have a son named Felipe? Filippo?
Or Felice ... just like his dad

This is what I have so far, all of them came from Argentina.

Some POSSIBILITIES????

This appears to be the death of a daughter of this same couple although the transcription of the record has the surname spelled Di Peca, not Di Peio (transcription error?)
These records from Chieti are available online but only when viewing at a Family History Center or an affiliated library. The link below shows the death of Maddalena Di Peca/Di Peio, daughter of Tommaso Di Peca and Angela Frana, at age 38 in 1906 (DOB 1868) COULD be a sibling of Filipe?

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLFK-WT1G

***EDIT TO ADD***

While searching the birth acts in Semivicoli, Chieti, for children of the Tommaso Di Peio whose death index I posted, I found this birth...

#8 - dated 5 June 1873
Birth of Carmela Di Peo on 4 June.
Father: Tommaso di Peo, son of deceased Felice, age 41, miller, residing in Semivicoli
Mother: Angela Frani, his wife

AND***

A son, Felice, (most likely the first son) born to Tommaso Di Peio and Angela Frani - 26 April 1867
#4
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 5.jpg.html

AND***

Here is the death of Angela Frani in 1914 in Semivicoli (Frazione of Casacanditella) Chieti. #3
Angela was age 81, the wife of Tommaso Di Peio.
She was a farmer born and residing in Semivicoli; the daughter of deceased Giuseppe Frani and of deceased Maddalena Bonetti.

AND***

Here is the death of Tommaso Di Peio (as in the index listing posted above) on 12 June 1917 in Casacanditella, at age 78. (#10)
Tommaso was the son of deceased Felice Di Peio and deceased Margherita Orlando.
He was the widower of Angela Frani
