I am trying to help my wife with her family tree. Her 3rd Great Grandfather is Pasquale Vigliotti born 1805 in Arienzo, Caserta, Campania, Itália. Don't know his wifes name. he had a daughter Angela Vigliotti born 1836 Arienzo, Caserta, Campania, Italy. She was married to Vincenzo Crisci. He was born 1833 Arienzo, Caserta, Campania, Italy

I had a look for Angela Vigliotti's birth record yesterday, and after looking through various birth indices for several years, either side of 1836, and going page by page through 1836 births, I guessed that Angela Vigliotti probably wasn't born in Arienzo, but that her husband was. I found at least three babies named Vincenzo Crisci, in different years, but at the time wasn't exactly sure which one was him, but figured it was probably the 1832 record that mmogno has posted here for you.

Today I located one of their children's birth records (Domenico), which was annoted with the details of his 1892 marriage to Maria Isabella Oliva. From the marriage record I learned that Angela Vigliotti was living in Santa Maria a Vico, looked for her Death Record there, which confirmed that she was actually born in Santa Maria a Vico. I'll post all the records below in the order of locating them. It will give you an idea of a process you can use to find Italian records (especially when you are not certain of the birth town). Death records are great as they usually give the birth town and names of the parents, and the spouse where relevant. Marriage Records also give a lot of helpful info.


Birth Record No 7: Domenico Crisci
Arienzo: 10 January 1866

Father: Vincenzo Crisci, son of Clemente, 33 yo, contadino, living in this town, Villaggio Crisci.
Baby was born same day to his wife Angela Vigliotti, daughter of deceased Pasquale, and given the name Domenico.

Side Note: On 20 November 1892, No 30, the marriage was celebrated in S. Maria Vico (Santa Maria a Vico) between Domenico Crisci and Maria Isabella Crisci (clerical error – see Marriage Record below)

(Some added info from this is that deceased Vincenzo Crisci, 59, was a contadino (peasant farmer), who lived his life in Arienzo. Angela Vigliotti, was also a contadina, (currently living Santa Maria a Vico as per Marriage record).

Alfonso Oliva was 58 yo, and Orsola Coppola was a donna di casa (houswife); they both resided Santa Maria a Vico.

Domenico Crisci was born Arienzo Villaggio Crisci and the bride in Santa Maria a Vico.)

Appearing before the official were Nicola Vigliotti, 80 yo, and Raffaele Vigliotti, 35 yo, both contadini (peasants) living in Santa Maria a Vico. They reported that yesterday (13 December 1901), in the house in Via Rosciano, No 13, died Angela Vigliotti, 68 yo (b. circa 1833), a contadina, born and residing Santa Maria a Vico, the daughter of deceased Pasquale Vigliotti and of the deceased Marianna Vigliotti???, both contadini who lived in Santa Maria a Vico when living. She was the widow of Vincenzo Crisci.

Yes, there is a discrepancy between Death and Birth Records with reference to Angela's mother's name. There can often be errors in Death Records. Often the people reporting the death didn't know the deceased so well, if at all. I looked at quite a few indices for various years and this was the only Angela Vigliotti I located. Finding Angela and Vincenzo's Marriage Record, if online, would help confirm things for you. I've run out of time now.
